Was there ever a minimum pitch size I thought there was an ideal size and clubs were expected to get as close to it as there grounds allowed.

AFAIR, at one point there was just the full size pitch and you had to seek dispensation 'for historical reasons', but now it is back to min and max dimensions, like before, to accommodate soccer pitches permanently, like for the grand final.

On my phone atm so difficult to find links.

The pitch dimensions now given are "preferred".

Only the smallest pitch is given as a minimum = under 7s at 50x30m.

So just a bit smaller than Bulls and Cas. 😉

EDIT - Actually, the pitch diagrams in the RFL document state the MINIMUM full size pitch dimensions as 92x55m, but states 100x68 as REQUIRED for pro levels (Tier 1, 2 & 3).

When is a rule, not a rule...

It was this one from 2016 I was thinking about.

Minimum 88 x 55 🤔

Quite. The ACTUAL minimum standards haven't changed.

The doc you mention was based on the dispensations given.

You will find that 88m equates to the smallest current SL pitch - who would have thought that, eh?!

55m equates to a pitch that was previously in SL...

The rules were/are bent and manipulated to suit.

Let's be honest pre-2010 were you going to kick Bulls out because their pitch was too small?

Post-2012 were you going to kick Cas out because their pitch was too small?
