England and Tonga jump Australia in world rankings

The "GB" tour has proven to be a fairly helpful loophole for that England rank.

Good to see Australia drop down and Serbia rewarded for their ambition on the International scene.

Really hope we get to a point soon where everyone is playing enough games each year for these ranks to reflect reality a little better. Would be very interesting to see how some of the middle-lower nations realistically compare to each other.

I think the criteria for awarding points seems very sensible and would create a pretty accurate view of which international team were best if (and I think this last point is really important) we actually played any games.

Here's a fun fact.

In the last 3 years the four teams at the top of the rankings (New Zealand, England, Tonga and Australia) have played 10 internationals between them (14 if we say that Great Britain counts for England).

But of course we have been in the state of a global pandemic for most of this time so internationals have been difficult?  The Union teams for these nations have played 109 internationals between them in the last 3 years.

When it comes to the profile of our sport, we simply get what we deserve.

I would argue it.

Australia's rugby union team have played 20 games since the Kangaroos last played. Their cricket team will have played 30 games in 2021 - in places like Bangladesh. The soccer team has managed to play games in places like Japan & Vietnam. Australia's rugby league team scared to even travel to other first world countries.

Agree with all of that, other than the scared but as I’d have though it’s more about money. However I still think they’re the strongest team.

England have only won one test since 2018 and that was against France!

100% record then.

.. also very poor, notwithstanding Covid.

I can confirm 30+ less sales for Scotland vs Italy at Workington, after this afternoons test purchase for the Tonga match, £7.50 is extremely reasonable, however a £2.50 'delivery' fee for a walk in purchase is beyond taking the mickey, good luck with that, it's cheaper on the telly.

Why are they using the varient flag of Germany as opposed to the official one and the former flag of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina which hasn't been used for about 15 years?

Because they either didn't bother to use Google or just don't care.

Australia have won only 2 of their 4 games since the last World Cup. In a way it’s a shame they are likely to get the easiest Quarter Final, I’d love to see Tonga, Samoa or Fiji knock Australia out of the World Cup in the Quarter Final.
