Ah, found a reason for this, on a repeated QI last night, one that starred the late great Carrie Fisher, S. Fry esq reported that there are no religious festivals in the USA, because the state separated from religion,  so all public holidays are secular, hence Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, etc.
