Promoting rugby league

Recommended Posts

This has probably been done to death but Joe Marler of Harlequins and England rugby union was on Soccer AM on Saturday morning. He's a personality and it's got me thinking who are the personalities in rugby league?

To grow the game people from outside rugby league need to know the faces and the names especially in a World Cup year. Who would be prime to go on let's say Question of Sport or be one of the faces of the sport? I'd like to see players and coaches more in the mainstream media spotlight. Let's get people more familiar with the names and personalities of the sport!

I think the only player at the moment who has some fame is Sam Tomkins- reigning man of Steel and well used to the media - getting on a bit now but should still be guaranteed a WC spot.

I would say Tommy Makinson would also be a good option as he's one of the  best players in the world and could be a star at this years WC.

Regan Grace seems very personable when interviewed.

I thought Soccer AM was supposed to be a cultural cringe for football, liked by kids and "prawn sandwich eater" types of supporters? Maybe not if someone educates me.

Saying that RL must have someone other than Adam Hill, who is articulate, funny, erudite and can  readily use the definite article within a sentence, surely?

He's been on Soccer AM before.

It’s basically made for the same people who read Nuts magazine. It must be cheap to make and Sky knows that it can still a few hours.

I think Rugby League has been quite fairly represented on QoS since the move to Salford.

Possibly because of the move to Salford.

It would be great to get Nick Barmby on Q of S and Soccer AM talking about his love of Rugby League and a man who had a stellar career in soccer

Thanks for all the replies guys, I wasn't having a dig but genuinely want to see this Rugby League World Cup maximise its potential and get the nation behind us!

We have a chance to build a legacy and really take this opportunity and getting players more out there is just one part of it for me.

Even if let's say Adam Hills as suggested is one of the faces let's get him doing an advert promoting Super League on Sky before the season starts.

Looks like we are stuck with Johnny Vegas.

Vegas is a good bloke, very passionate about RL, but unfortunately he fulfills all the stereotypes associated with our game
