coolie Posted January 19, 2022 Share Posted January 19, 2022 Dewsbury Rams are delighted to be able to announce that at the upcoming opening BetFred Championship fixture against Bradford Bulls that there will be a large party of former Dewsbury players coming to the game as guests of honour of the club. The club is hoping that over 80 former players will be there on the night. They will cross over all the recent history of Dewsbury RLFC from the 1960’s through to present time. Weather permitting there will be a parade of the players around the stadium at half time and then after the game they will be in the Royal Suite to renew old acquaintances and make new friends among the many Dewsbury supporters that are expected to be there to meet them. There will also be an exiting announcement made by the former players in a special question and answer session after the Bradford post match formalities are complete. `A huge amount of work to make this event possible has been done by past players Keith Mason, Graham Marsden, Shaun Dunford and Paul Cooper - a testament to their love of a club that has been such a big part of their life. Dewsbury chairman Mark Sawyer said “we are honoured to be able to welcome the former players to the club and we hope that this event can be the springboard of regular appearances at our games. Keith Mason & Graham Marsden have worked hard to get this done. It would be nice as well if it got a few more supporters through the gate, especially older ones. coolie Posted January 27, 2022 Author Share Posted January 27, 2022 Just another quick heads up to all the players invited to the Dewsbury RLFC reunion on Sunday 30th V Bradford at 1.45 meet round the front of the main stand where you will be meeted and greeted by yours truly and Graham Marsden and Graham fisher, then we will ask you to go into the Bailey Bar where Neil Coolie Coulson will meet you he then will escort you into the Bar it will be a great day, looking forward to seeing everybody there’s a lot of you coming let’s make it a day to remember,and the supporters of the club as I understand are exited and looking forward to seeing you all let’s not let them down . Crown Flatter Posted January 31, 2022 Share Posted January 31, 2022 That was great turn out if ex-players yesterday and I had a chat with a few, but I had to ask some to identify themselves as they had changed a bit since their playing days! One suggested name badges might have been a good idea. It was Heard to hear some of the talks given as the Royal Suite was so full and noisy, but I got the gist of what was being said. I though that Keith Mason spoke well, not the Bungalow term associated with him. I asked Johnny Moore how he developed his typical running style (he called it his enigma) and he said it was because he didn’t like being tackled and tried to avert opponents. Paul Shuttleworth recalled his sending off in the 3-2 victory over HKR on that awful [weather] Thursday evening. Apparently he caught someone around the head and was promptly dismissed by Charlie Tidball, who disliked Shut for some reason. I had a good chat with Dennis Bailey, who wished that Eddie could have made it from Kenya. The ex-players were gracious in taking time to talk to supporters and I thank them for that. I even collared one person who looked like he could have played for us, but he said he only played at amateur level locally. Told me his name was Peter Lewis. So nice to get a good reaction from the crowd on a day we will never forget Please pass on my regards to all concerned with the club for making it so special. My Grandad played for Dewsbury probably in the late 40s and was wondering if anyone had any information about him. He was called Jack Hughes (nagger) and I think he was a loose forward.
