Right I've set up the 2022 NRL Supercoach League ! Everyone is welcome whether you've played here before or are new.

You can find this league here:

https://supercoach.foxsports.com.au/nrl

Follow the instructions there to join, pick a team name, a squad and join our league by clicking the green link and enter the code 445675

N.B. You can change any squad you pick any number of times before Round 1 starts.

Basic facts:

There only 20 places available in this league.

They are available on a first come first served basis.

Get in early to ensure a place.

All places do go!

This is our 2022 league title with the six figure code to enter

TotalRLSCLeague22 (445675)

My team this year is called Darrington Drovers and is already entered  which means there are 19 places still available in the league.

I've not yet picked my squad. You can pick one straight away if you want. There’s unlimited changes allowed before the season gets under way so you can change any picks you make wholesale if you want.

You have to be in it to win it... or join in the fun.

There’s been a swift response after a few hours of opening up our Supercoach League for 2022.

The league has a limit of20 places…

Within a few hours 5 of those places have been taken.

If you want to be sure of a place grab one quickly before they all go. If you want you can pick your squad anytime before Round 1 gets underway. You can of course have a stab at that straight away. You have unlimited changes until that first game of R1.

Here’s an outline of how NRLSupercoach works.

It will be helpful for first timers or a reminder to others:

HOW TO PLAY SUPERCOACH

HOW TO CHANGE TEAM NAME

Your team name can be changed under the 'My Profile' section on the settings page. Team names can only be changed before the start of the next round. Once the next round is complete, you will no longer be able to change your team name.

SALARY CAP

You must select 25 players with an upgraded $10,000,000 salary cap. And no, not all 25 men count towards your total score. Only your starting 17 will accumulate points, but it is important to make wise selections with the remaining eight players who will provide backup and earn you cash from the bench. This will be explained in more detail further on.

POSITIONS

The break down of positions are as follows: Two hookers (HOK), four props (FRF), six second-rowers (2RF), two halfbacks (HFB), two five-eighths (5/8), seven centres/wingers (CTW), two fullbacks (FLB).

PLAYER SELECTION

You want to place more focus on the forwards as they generate points on a more consistent basis, while you want backs who get their hands on the ball and are renowned scorers. Some players have dual positioning, meaning you can slide them from one position to the other.

HOW TO JOIN A LEAGUE

Upon registering for Supercoach you'll automatically be added to a public league, but you do have the option of creating and/or joining a private league as well, via the 'Leagues' page. Joining a private league requires a private code, which the league admin was provided upon creating it. Most leagues are head-to-head leagues, where each week you will play another Supercoach player and attempt to outscore them with your team.

WHAT IS A ROLLING LOCK OUT?

A rolling lockout runs for the duration of each round during the season. During this time, players can be traded, be made Captain/Vice Captain and substituted up until the start of their respective match.

TRADES

Supercoaches will be given 42 trades in total to chop and change their team, with two trades per round unless otherwise allocated. Trades are used for picking up players who are hot and getting rid of those who are not. It's important to be frugal with your trades early in the season, as they're more crucial towards the end of the season when injuries hit.

HOW TO REVERSE TRADES

Players will find the 'Reverse Trades' button above their team list in the 'Edit Team' page. Trades can be reversed at any time before the lockout kicks in at the start of each round. Once the rolling lockout begins prior to kick-off of the first game of each round, trades are unable to be reversed.

PLAYER PRICING

Generally players will carry their prices from the previous year into the new season. Last year the most expensive player was Tom Trbojevic ($1,263,000), who began the year at $593,500. Pricing is based on break evens (see below) and factors such as points average, games played and total points.

WHAT ARE BREAK EVENS?

Pay close, close attention. In simple terms, the breakeven is the number that determines how a player’s value fluctuates. It is the approximate score that the player has to reach for his price not to fall, or rise in value. They must play a minimum of three games, and each breakeven is determined on a three-round rolling average. Let’s do an example. If a player’s breakeven is 65 and they score 50, their price will come down. If a player has a breakeven of 40 and they score 60, their price will rise. Rookies usually start with a negative breakeven (e.g -25). It’s so that even if a rookie scores just two points, they will still see a dramatic increase. That’s why it’s important to jump on the right rookies in the early stages.

SUPERCOACH CLASSIC: TIPS AND STRATEGIES

- Cheap rookies should be your bread and butter: Stack your bench with cheap cash cows who will earn you money while your big names make up the points in the starting side. Remember you only have to play 17 of your 25 players, meaning that the rookies can make cash on the side even if they don’t score massively. If you play your cards right you can then upgrade your cheapies with gun players whose prices may have dropped.

- Forwards come first: The big men are usually more consistent scorers as they pick up more stats off tackles, hit-ups, tackle breaks and offloads. Whereas backs rely more on linebreaks, tries and assists to pick up points.

- Do your research on big names: Try not to get caught selecting a player purely on the basis that they are a big name. As previously mentioned, superstar status doesn't always equate to Supercoach value.

- Don’t burn your trades too early: Every trade is crucial. They are most useful in the Origin period when players are in camp or being rested from club duties. We don’t use a trade until after the second round as it is hard to tell if a player is scoring consistently after just one week. The first price change kicks in at that point too.

- Monitor breakevens: High means bad. Low means good. That’s the simplest way to predict price changes. If someone’s breakeven is 100, they are going to drop massively. STAY AWAY. If it’s -10, they are going to climb up enormously. GET ON.

WHY MAKING MONEY IS SO IMPORTANT

Most rookie Supercoaches go in with the idea that points win games. But just like the real world, money talks.

You may start with $10,000,000 in your pocket, but that piggy bank can grow and grow over time.

The secret: Cash cows. Or in simple terms, those players who start at a cheaper price and low breakeven, meaning their price will soar.

These kind of players are the backbone to every successful Supercoach side.

Here’s an example of how they work - A debutant comes in at $168,100, he plays five games and scores fairly consistently. Because that rookie has a low breakeven, his price will rise rapidly. What you’re trying to do is build his value up as high as possible, until his breakeven hits a high point. When it does that, it means his price will see a decrease rather than increase. That’s when you leverage that price rise to possibly trade for a renowned Supercoach gun, like a Tom Trbojevic or Damien Cook. Refer to the breakeven section above if you’re confused.

So how do you find them?

You need to look for rookies that are on track to have a full, or part season in first grade for the first time. The ones that are in the starting 13 are gold, while the ones who come off the bench are helpful.

Not all rookies will come in at base-price value though, if they've already played a small handful of games.

When those round one line-ups come out, it’s important to pay close attention to the smaller names.

It’s also worth keeping an eye out for those players who have spent time in the lower grades and switched clubs for a chance in the top flight, or those that are coming off an injury-plagued season that caused them to see fewer minutes last year. These type of players usually start at a bargain value.

Perhaps experienced Supercoachers might suggest players to build a team round and players to avoid?

I'm not sure I qualify as "experienced", but this is my 4th year playing and I'm still learning. The golden rules I live by are :

1. Spend big on full backs, halves and second row forwards.

2. CTW is the position for making money at the start of the season from new, up and coming players OR for playing dual position players who may qualify as a CTW but actually play full back or in the second row.

3. Don't confuse a great player with a useful Supercoach player. Examples would be Elliot Whitehead and Jesse Bromwich who are great players but not in a way that scores Supercoach points.

4. Avoid players coached by Ricky Stuart and Michael Maguire. Their selection policies are so inconsistent you never make any money out of them or get regular high scores. The possible exception to this rule is Luciano Leilua.

5. Don't waste any more money than you have to on players 18 to 25, but try and ensure the majority will play at least a few games.

Hope that is some help!!
