Attendances (Multiple Merged Threads)

Recommended Posts

Decent crowd at Hurricanes. Don't know the official figures but it was over 400 close to kick off. Last year's crowds were way down (related to Covid), higher rent, and no other income streams. For a first game this was good, bar and food did well so something to build on. Some big community events upcoming so expect bigger crowds at those events. All in all a good start at the new (temporary) ground.

Wakey and Giants poor but with both winning hopefully picks up.  Pies were on thursday.

Champ fax and probably London will be poor.

Rest are all decent.

Really?

Decent?

All the SL clubs should be 5 figures minimum. Wigan is poor for a side thats joint top of the league and historically averaging much higher. 9k is just over a third full. Not good enough

I think we should have some kind of attendance Zhar on this thread , someone who has absolute authority on what is a good or bad attendance , my nomination is SKS , someone who has absolute knowledge on what is a good or bad attendance .

All hail SKS , attendance Zhar supreme ,

Very poor attendances from both Wakefield and Huddersfield, Super League clubs should be getting at least double those figures in home fans alone.

Once again Leeds have the highest attendance of the round by a considerable margin.

And to be fair to them, at least half stayed to the end on Friday.

With attendance figures, it's easy to think that modern crowds are down on say ten or twenty years ago but when you look at the data, it is often not the case at all. Perhaps its a desire to see them constantly increasing as proof the game is in good health. The slightest momentary downturn and woe, the game is in decline.

It takes reasonableness to end that discussion.

But if we had accepted that a 5-6k average was the ceiling in the 1990s then we wouldn't have hit 10k. Hull KR and Cas are showing that there isn't always a direct correlation between winning and attendances. It is how the clubs market the event and fan experiences on game day. SL should be averaging five figure crowds - there are no barriers to this only short-termism.

That’s a poor gate considering how many saints took

There are reasons why crowds vary. It could be historical reasons, ie has the town ever been a RL hotbeaad? How strong soccer is in the area? Where clubs can do something about it is marketing & promotion. Not enough variety of opponents with just 12 sides in SL. Poor weather and financial pressures are two that may be affecting some recent gates. Taken over a whole season is a better indicator of a trend. Hopefully clubs are proactive in assessing the situation and doing what they can to maximise local interest and support.

Not enough variety is a big one for me, 12 teams is dull.

maybe but I am not convinced. If all the clubs were playing at the level of saints would 12 clubs lead to dull games.

For sure the game would seem healthy if able to increase number of SL clubs on the back of increased interest. Never the less 12 clubs in my opinion isn't a root cause for a dull SL.

Wakefield’s stadium is shocking to go and watch a game of RL, it’s the flat terracing that put me off from attending another game there. Id imagine it’s the same for the Wakefield public, but when the ground is redeveloped i can see crowds increasing with the better facilities.

If the best attendance (by a considerable margin) of the round is poor what does that say for the rest of Super League. There were probably 1500 Saints fans at Headingley.

We’ve been through this many times haven’t we. Leeds is a massive city, the only one with a SL team; you’d expect them to have the highest attendances, yet per head of population they’re actually very small compared to most SL teams.

Just wait until next season. When you see the difference between Leeds' attendances and those of the other clubs in the Championship, you'll absolutely lose it.
