Mikey Lewis back on celebrating that try, not bad considering he was apparently out for the count a few minutes ago.

The positivity from the increased coverage of the game is in danger of being overshadowed by over zealous referring and disproportionate suspensions

You couldn’t be more wrong if you tried with the second part of that sentence.

Poor coaching by coaches and awful execution of basic skills by players result in foul play followed by appropriate suspensions

The slip caused the contact with the head, it won't a swinging arm. Without the slip he basically grabs him around the stomach level. I understand the duty of care but if a player slips into contact then there's nothing a tackler can do if he's set

Fair enough, but surely Watts knew he wasn't going to get there and make contact before he kicked the ball, so why risk making late contact?

Not saying he didn’t make contact with the head but every contact doesn’t need to be a yellow card. Getting as bad as union

The 2 sin bins were correct decisions. Both contacts could and should have been avoided

Watts had a choice. To make contact late or not. He incorrectly chose the former

The players need to change what they're doing, it's been made clear how the game is to be played, it's not a referee's job to make a game entertaining for a neutral.

It's not like the refs are just making it up as they go along.

I'll ask this, if he doesn't slip is it a sin bin? Not a chance, it would barely even have been noticed. Watching the replay at half time and with no slip its an absolute nothing of a contact.

The first one is definitely deserved, it was a daft, uncontrolled challenge and deserved a yellow, it would have probably berm a yellow the past 3 or 4 seasons too. I just think if the impact of what Watts did is entirely dependant on the defender slipping a yellow is very harsh.

Does that mean every high tackle from now on is an automatic sin bin? Is that the directive

No. And that hasn’t been the case in this and every other game.

BTW are you saying that the 2 sin bins were incorrect?

well one high shot by Hull KR was just a penalty... so the answer to your question is no, even in the same game. Just a penalty for that was right.

SKY haven't mentioned it but Rovers are having to play without 3 prop forwards with Vete, Sims and Maher all absent.

It means that the championship signings of Garratt and Richards are having to step up and learn fast when they were expected to do that in the reserve team.

Happy enough to be ahead but it's anyone's game.

Late hit. He had 2 strides to stop. He didn’t have to swing his left arm.

If Watts doesn't swing his left arm then it mitigates any chance of contact, it wasn't the slip that forced Watts' arm to be where it was.

That's what caused the foul not the slip.

But it was only a foul because of the slip, without that slip its absolutely nothing, certainly not a foul.

I worry that we are skewing the balance too much between attacker and defender. In the 2nd case lewis is running a line to commit defenders before passing. The defender, committed to the attacker's line then has to have in his mind that he will either need to make a tackle or completely pull out of contact and essentially stop moving. A decision essentially made in under a second. It doesn't feel like a fair contest to me.

Not saying either decision is incorrect in line with the rules.
