UK sports producer and distributor IMG Media has extended its contract with the Rugby Football League (RFL), pledging to “increase international distribution and exposure of British rugby league events.”

IMG acts as exclusive worldwide media consultant for the RFL, governing body of rugby league, and under the new deal will help it to negotiate new domestic broadcast contracts and media opportunities.

They did this at least until 2011, possibly later.

I suppose the devil is in the detail. Are we just paying them for a service, are they paying us, is it a partnership (a real one, not just in name)?

If we've just paid them to help us sell rights and market then it's the same as ever.

IMG are good at TV rights on a global stage ,everything else pretty useless they tend to flog off the secondary rights to 3rd parties.

Vik Wakling (The old head of Sky Sports) was not impressed when they were brought in to negotiate a new TV deal around 12/15 years ago the only other players in the market at the time were Setanta and ESPN.

Rumour has it that knowing they were the only game in town he lowered the offer that he was originally going to pay.
