I know it’s the derby and who knows what can happen etc, but I am not sure anyone doubts how this is going to play out. With a consolation try at the end, we will lose by around 14 points. There is a gulf between the 2 sides in terms of ability to execute a game plan. I hope that we don’t completely collapse, but that is always a possibility.

Looking to the years, ahead, we are pretty much all in on Havard, Byrne and Smithies becoming effective at this level. We also need to get a 9 that runs with the ball. It’s not the time to mention it, as Field has been and continues to be so good, but I would like to see 1 French, 6 Field, 7 Leuluai, 9 Cust. As we have zero running threat from acting half, defences can get set for the runners and drift across to make easy tackles out wide.

I think we can be competitive against the other sides, but we could make more of the resources we have available to us.

Any plans for the years ahead that include Leuluai are pretty questionable. He may have been a great servant to the game, but he can't have many seasons left in him.

It will be tough for Wigan to get a win here but watching them this year is a completely different experience than the last few seasons.  They are at least trying to play rugby and unpick defences and not just play through processes.

How can that be a try when the last one wasn't?

I was thinking we could see how it goes later this year. Looks like I was overly optimistic about the 14 point defeat today. There can be a tendency to look ahead to Monday’s game when a long way ahead, though, so they may stop playing when they get 20 odd ahead.
