Rochdale Hornets Wheelchair Rugby League team is proud to be selected to participate in the 2022 Peacock Cup.

The Peacock Cup is an annual charity wheelchair rugby league tournament, hosted by North Wales Crusaders, in the aid of Hope House Children’s Hospice and in the memory of Wrexham toddler Thomas Jones - who sadly passed away just two days after his third birthday in 2018.

The event is organised by Crusaders player and Thomas’s uncle Harry Jones; so far it has helped raise more than £10,000 in memory of three-year-old Thomas.

The 2022 tournament will be held on Sunday May 22 at Glyndwr University, in Wrexham, with Hornets competing against: three times champions North Wales Crusaders, Torfaen Tigers, Sheffield Eagles and West Wales Raiders.

Head Coach Carl Abraham commented: "This tournament gives us a perfect opportunity to compete against other teams we’re unlikely to meet throughout the season, and continues to support the club’s ambitions of building the game within the borough.’’

"I’m seeing mass improvements week-on-week and believe participating in such a worthwhile event was a no-brainer.

"All players attending will gain valuable game time from the experience and I feel that just being in attendance will help the team throughout our 2022 campaign and beyond.

"All our players gave a resounding yes when asked if they wanted to participate and the whole team is proud to be involved.

"We're looking forward to representing the borough in the club’s first tournament since its relaunch,’’ he concluded.

If you’ve seen the sport and you would like to get involved, then now is your time.

Come and join us at our any of our weekly get together sessions currently being delivered every Tuesday at the Rochdale Leisure Centre from 7-8pm.

Hornets continue their league campaign on Sunday when they take on Dundee Dragons, at Rochdale Leisure Centre (1:30pm kick-off).
