Combined Nations All-Stars 29 man squad named

Recommended Posts

Johnstone - Scotland

Connor - Trinidad

Haha😀 I hope to God that that isn't a clear indication that both have been frozen out by Wane.

No players from St. Helens, I notice. I wonder whether Woolf has had a word with his squad and told them not to make themselves available. I would have imagined that Mata'utia, Grace and Hurrell would have been in consideration.

“Some people will raise eyebrows and ask why we haven’t included any of the brilliant St Helens players – for example I’d have loved to include Sione Mata’utia in our squad alongside his brother Peter.

“But we have to recognise that a lot of St Helens players are very important to Shaun Wane’s plans for England this year, so it was more sensible for us to look to other clubs across the Super League.”

That’s what Hanley had to say about why there wasn’t any Saints players picked.

What a load of codswallop from good old Ellery.

I seem to remember there being limits in place of how many players could be selected from each club previously, I don’t think this is new.

Yeah, I suppose if England pick Welsby, Makinson, Percival, Lomax, Knowles and Walmsley, that's 6 players.

You're probably right, but it's still a touch frustrating.

Picking Garcia when France and Wales are meant to be playing on that same weekend is rather disrespectful to the actual international game to say the least.

Not unsurprising however.

I hadn't picked up on that. I hope he pulls out.

I didn’t realise Johnstone qualified for Scotland, he could be handy for them in the World Cup

Indeed , although I think he could be very handy for us

Am I missing something with Wane and Johnstone?

TJ is one of the most dangerous outside backs in SL - no? He is head and shoulders above some of those outside backs in this squad. It's not even conjecture.

Think I'd go something like this for a run-on XIII (leaving Garcia out):

FB - Field

RW - Sio

RC - Mata'utia

LC - Lafai

LW - Johnstone

SO - Connor

SH - Lolohea

PR - Fifita

HK - Lovodua

PR - Satae

SR - Linnett

SR - Martin

LF - Yates

no Bevan French?

Source club player number limits combined across both squads, as per last year (5?).

That's why this squad is light on Wigan / St Helens / Warrington selections.

"Meanwhile, Jake Connor, who played in the inaugural All Stars fixture last summer, will once again represent his family’s Trinidadian heritage."

WTF?!?!

Did he buy a Billy Ocean record at some time in his life?
