Tom Johnstone to Catalans

Recommended Posts

  • Jughead changed the title to Tom Johnstone to Catalans

With Catalans already having 2 good wingers, maybe rotating them with Johnstone might help with his injury problems, the amount of money they are going to pay him will have a bearing on whether it’s a good signing.

He will be on crumbs with jam at Wakefield so I'd imagine he would jump at what they were paying Dean Whare.

Johnstones had just three injuries in something like 8 years in SL, granted 2 of them were serious knee injuries but he’s come back from them and looks as good as ever. The reason people have this overinflated impression that he’s injury prone is his profile and the level of anticipation of watching him play. Everyone wants to see him pull one of those magic acrobatic finishes off or to watch him step through defenders then blast his way downfield with sheer pace on show. When he gets an injury or simply doesn’t play there’s a huge deflation as so much potential excitement exits that particular match.

He’s the best winger in SL and brings an X Factor that you’re currently only seeing with Jai Field but he’s doing it in a team that doesn’t have the players that Wigan have. Stick him in that Wigan back line, Sts or Catalan with Tomkins linking up with him out wide and he’ll be even more scintillating than he has been with Trinity.

Talk of Yaha or Davies being better is just ludicrous!

Exactly!

Martin Offiah was the worlds best winger when he signed for Wigan but what did Wigan do, they signed Gene Miles to play Centre inside Offiah!

Hasn’t Johnstone had a few head knocks in the last year or so?

Any top club should be building into its contract essentially breakdown cover clauses for those players with serious injury problems in the past. If they aren't needed then both sides are pretty happy and the player is probably carving it up at his new club.

Miles was playing second row and injured before Wigan signed Offiah.

However, I see where you are coming from.

What a half season they had together!!

Reported by Matthew Shaw.

Does he get in over Yaha and Davies?

I rate Tom Davies but Yaha is just a big daft dumpling. I am really suprised why Catalan have persisted with him for so long

Not only 2 serious knee injuries it’s also the head knocks, they are equally worrying.  He’s not worth the risk IMHO.

he cant spend the rest of his life after rl and wakey  wondering "what if"- life and rl careers are too short - nothing will change at wakey in his playing career - go for it - whats the worst that can happen?

There are Twitter rumours that more than one SL club is looking at Barrow's pacey Thai winger Theerapol "Tee" Ritson - might be a cost-effective Johnstone replacement for Trinity, maybe?
