After two years the Dutch domestic season is back at full 13 a side.

Reigning champions (before the covid years) Den Haag Knights ran in NINE tries in the last twenty minutes to turn a 6-28 deficit into an amazing 56-28 victory over Amsterdam Cobras to open their season account.

In a repeat of the 2019 Grand Final Knights second row Dylan Robinson ran in five tries as the visiting Cobras collapsed in dramatic fashion.

New boys Zwolle Wolves recorded an impressive competition debut victory over the visiting Harderwijk Dolphins.

Hat tricks from Petrus Kuijpers  and Casper Nell saw the home side in a comfortable position before two late Dolphin tries brough the end result to a respectable 40-32 to the boys from Overijssel.

Wednesday evening the Wolves travel to Zaandam to face the Cobras who will be looking to bounce back after Saturdays defeat and on Friday evening the Knights travel to Rotterdam as the Pitbulls kick of their season in what is always a tough hard fought battle between long standing rivals.

Wednesday game will be Livestreamed on Twitch with a 20:00 Dutch time KO

Five teams .

Amsterdam Cobras based in Zaandam just north of the Dam.One GF victory.

North Holland Province.

Den Haag Knights who have won every competition but only one GF in Five attempts.Based in Den Haag.

Zuid Holland Province.

Rotterdam Pitbulls based in Capella aan de Ijssel.Twice GF winners.

Zuid Holland Province

Harderwijk Dolphins out of the town with the same name.

Yet to reach the GF.

Gelderland Province.

New boys Zwolle Wolves out of the town with the same name.

Overijssel Province.

A nice spread around the country but with the Netherlands being small the maximum travel is only a couple of hours.

If your looking for the missing GF winner of the five competitions played its North Brussels Gorrilas who won the very first GF then pulled out after one year.

Due to world cup qualifying games the season will consist of every team playing each other only once then the play offs.

Strange after two years of inactivity and not sure the reasoning behind this.

Great to see the clubs expanding to five because due to the covid lockdowns a few people had doubts that all four clubs would return intact never mind expansion.

The competition gets a mention in the coverage of the South Africa v Brasil game played last Sunday.

What happened there?  Weren't Rotterdam the dominant force in Dutch RL for years?

Rotterdam won two of the first three Grand Finals but didn't develop further.

(Remember Den Haag have won every competition and appeared in every final so really have Rdam been the dominant force 🤔)

As the team grew older no kids came through.

Den Haag on the other hand have brought youngsters into the set up as seen in the national team that won the European D title.

Den Haag also have recruited a few overseas players that  are in the country playing union.

Three good Kiwis in the side which can only help the local players improve.

Can see the Knights being the team to beat for the foreseeable future.

Setting standards.

Early result from round three.

New boys Zwolle Wolves beat Rotterdam Pitbulls 40 points to 4 in a 12 noon kick off to leave the Pitbulls win less after two games.

Two wins and a draw put Zwolle on top of the table with five points.

Den Haag who are free this weekend sit second with two wins out off two.

Next Saturday the Wolves travel to Den Haag for a very interesting top of the table clash.

28 degrees in the Harderwijk at the moment but should be a bit cooler at 4pm when the second game kicks off as Amsterdam travel to the Dolphins.

Top of the table clash this morning .

12 noon kick off and by half time Den Haag Knights had punished some weak Zwolle defence to race into a 32-0 half time lead.

Credit to the visitors ,who were looking to extend their unbeaten run in their debut season, as the scored 16 quickfire points after the break to narrow the gap to 16.

Knights then got their game back together ,upped the pace and took the points, and a place in the Grand Final, running out worthy 42-28 winners.

4pm in Capelle, Rotterdam Pitbulls entertain Harderwijk Dolphins  as the Pitbulls go looking for their first win.

@yanto - what's the score with the North Brussels Gorillas? There was obviously a fallout which meant they didn't get invited back but is there no way back for them? It would be nice to see the comp expand and a combined BE-NE comp would make sense to me

No fall out whatsoever.

Travel was an issue and I for one thought it was unfair that NBG had to play their games in the Netherlands.Gorrillas hosted the finals day and I'm certain if they had stayed in the comp the travel would have been resolved in season two.

Brussels though had their own plans and decided that was the direction they wanted to go.

Unsure of what's happened in Belgium.

Gorilla players have turned out for Den Haag and illias is playing this season at Amsterdam.

Even the NED BEL union comp fell by the wayside due to costs and the union has way more finance behind the clubs than the League organisation.

Now with five Dutch clubs maybe they can organise themselves a bit better and ŕun into an eight game season plus finals day.

Bur steady growth is great.

How is the game received by the general public can you see it getting a little mention in media like radio or newspapers? On average what's the crowd size. Do you see any potential for Netherlands making World Cup 2025? Be great if Papenhuyzen and Nikorima brothers play for you, are there nay other eligible Dutch NRL players.

Just really curious on the state of game over there.
