NSW v Queensland live

Recommended Posts

Carrigan was fantastic on debut and Munster was a jack-in-the-box, with his zip and ebullience being a real point of difference.

An intense and hugely engrossing 80 minutes of football. Probably the most I've enjoyed an Origin clash for a number of years.

I was disappointed in Cleary and Lua'i. I thought Gus Gould was bang-on in saying that Munster's off-the-cuff qualities were much more threatening than the up-and-down predictability from the NSW halves.

great stuff but lets hope some of those players on display opt for the emerging nations teams in the wc and not australia and things could be on a much more even keel

Everything about SOO gives me hope for the future of RL....if the want and will is there.

On a side note, the only disappoint for me yesterday was that Ray Warren (Rabs) is no longer on commentary. I know he's made the odd gaffe in recent years, but nobody could exude the intensity of Origin like him.

I didn’t really understand Fittler’s bench. It was interesting when Joey was asked how he gets Crichton on and he had no idea . As it happened Staggs got injured, but it seemed strange having a specialist centre on the bench . They had Matterson who could cover second row or centre as well as 13  , and Murray , and one big middle in Paulo . Carrigan and Collins for Queensland gave a great double punch off the bench and of course Grant is dynamic … and Nanai . They all added something

I was amazed he put Crichton on the bench in the first place instead of Hynes.

With both his passing and running threat, Hynes would have been very handy in the last 20/25 minutes.

I see State of Origin 1 got an average of 2.937 million viewers.

It is almost incomprehensible for a UK Rugby aleague fan to see that State of Origin has the biggest audience of any TV programme this year so far.  Not just sports programmes but all TV shows.

All depends what the other programmes were, if Ghost versus the German Jubilee was anything to go by no contest.

I watched it and it was a good match. No Biff worthy of the name though.

Maybe thats what made it a good match….and onethat attracted so many viewers.

The biff is overrated and our game is much the better for its absence

And the second one rated over 3.1m could easily hit 3.2 once the 7 day consolidated figures come in.

Also in the crowd at Perth :

No less than 60 members of the touring England rugby union team — including coach Eddie Jones and assistant Anthony Seibold — attended Origin II ahead of their Test against the Wallabies at the same venue on Saturday night.

“We were behind the goalposts, which gave us a really good perspective of the shapes and plays,” Seibold said when tracked him down during England training. “The players loved it. Guys like [fly-half] Marcus Smith were keen to watch Cameron Munster and Nathan Cleary and they were impressed. And Eddie, coming from NSW, was happy with the result.”

Interesting that they obviously know of Munster and Cleary. I`d love to know what they really think of League when it is played at the highest level.

Excellent numbers.  Back to all midweek next year so will be interesting to see how that shows up.
