Wigan’s cartoon mural - when is it too far?

I believe that the Saints didn't support the player as fully as they could?

As always, happy to be proven wrong as Saints is not my specialism in terms of SL.

What's that got to do with any of this?

It shows that the mural is great art because it opens up so avenues of artistic thought and response.

Of course, to a philistine, this may appear to be base whataboutery but those of us who watched 'Late Review' know better.

Am commenting on an unsavoury incident which is emblazoned on a cartoon montage.

It's whataboutery and has nothing to do with the mural at all.

Yeah but Flower's initial swinging arm to the back of Hohaia's head probably wasn't as recognisable.

I think you have got that the wrong way around.

Watch the build up to the incident.

Something was bound to happen.

Watch 'Up n Under' 1992 or YouTube of Wembley 1990... Jackson and Mercer literally smashed Shaun Edwards' face in.

Warrington cited Joe Lydon for his tackle on Paul Bishop. Wigan took no action against Jackson nor Mercer.

I have posted similar before.

In conclusion, I defend noone in relation to thuggery but there are always at least two sides to every story.

This is not about thuggery, its about memorialising it in a mural

Nope. Flower swinging arm first, Hohaia then leading with the forearm after, then we all know what happened.

Pretty clear on the replay at 1:15

Ref holding the red card and Flower hands on head if you really must document it 😕

good job Tom and Jerry never played for wigan, mind you - you dont see them on tv anymore do you?

Leuluai is still there, but it's true that Seu Seu's stint was fairly forgettable.

I can confirm 30+ less sales for Scotland vs Italy at Workington, after this afternoons test purchase for the Tonga match, £7.50 is extremely reasonable, however a £2.50 'delivery' fee for a walk in purchase is beyond taking the mickey, good luck with that, it's cheaper on the telly.

Such an important part of the club's history.

I do hope someone makes a cartoon out of it.

Not unsavoury , disgusting thuggery that if it had happened in the street would have resulted in a prison sentence of several years

It still surprises me after all these years that some people here are trying to justify this attack because he plays for their team.

I've no doubts they will claim that's not what they are doing, but any mention of anything happening first is an attempt to justify it and you know it.

It is the most vicious piece of thuggery I've seen in sport, and I still believe we went far too soft on it, a convenient use of pre-season to make the ban look harsh.

It is still difficult to watch those clips now.

But Wigan think this is a good thing to portray as slapstick in a poster.

It appears that the artist includes such incidents across other cartoons he draws, as he has depicted Roy Keane’s pretty terrible tackle on Alf Haaland on a Man United mural with comic sound effect for good measure, though I can’t see that the United one was an official commissioned piece, like this Wigan one is. I suppose there’s free licence on unofficial pieces but I would have thought there would be less so on official pieces.

If I was Eamon McManus having seen this I'd have been on the mobile to ' Ian ' asking him " what are you thinking here ? "

He hasn’t but on the subject of this mural, it’s not really relevant.

Watch the video Ohio smacks Flower at the back of the head just before the first punch is thrown by Flower.
