LeagueConvert Posted July 5, 2022 Share Posted July 5, 2022 At this stage of our season where relegation looks inevitable, is there really any point in bringing in players from other clubs when we need to start preparing for next year when those players wont be interested in playing in league 1? To my mind we need to give our squad a chance to play, make their mistakes, learn from them and be in a stronger position next year. lf we don't start playing these lads then we won't have the basis of a squad left and it will a case of scratching around for players to try and survive again and given the fact that some league 1 clubs are already preparing for next year we could see ourselves doomed to oblivion within a couple of seasons. The chances of staying up have all but gone not mathematically I know but it was always a matter of time before London picked up a few wins and they will pick up another 2/3 before the season ends. preparing for next year is now imperative to hit the ground running for a strong league 1 campaign. For them to throw in the towel at this stage is a bit premature. The good/bad news if we get relegated is I can't see Championship clubs coming for many of our players, Gabriel for sure, Ryder is 32 and had some injury problems. Can't think of anyone else .So the players have a choice of staying at a club with great facilities, very likely to be favourites for promotion and probably paying as well as any in the division and financially stable. There are some good individuals who would prosper with a better collective unit around them. Being put through gaps etc. To inadvertently suggest that at best 90% are League One standard is off the mark IMO. However it may not be apparent because of the respective collective units they are playing within. That being the case a player playing in a less competitive team may not be in a position to showcase his full credentials. Personally I would question Bradford being amongst the teams mentioned. IMO they are very much an up and down team with selection differing from week to week! Some players come on to the market really late and as such slot in where there is an opportunity available. It does not mean that they are not capable of operating within a more solid/rounded team. Other factors also come into it such as club location and work commitments. Some of the players have hardly been given a chance under the previous regime. Preparing the younger players for next season sounds like a good idea but we don't know if they will stay or be retained; a couple will move to other Championship clubs leaving us with maybe 10 out of the current squad and a lot of recruiting to do. I firmly believe that LF is a good coach and will get better still. We are not financially stable - central funding added to diminished gate money and income generated from the ground isn't sufficient to run a semi-pro team, even in C1. Keighley will be paying salaries much higher than any others in the division.
