Was training with Barrowraiders last night. Would he be a good signing for us ?

Definitely. Always gave 100% and we were gutted to lose him. A very fit lad who's work rate is second to none and can adapt to a number of backrow positions if required.

Or did he realises getting stuffed every week wasn’t for him. The lad talked about issues he had in his life out side rugby wanted to get back in to it so fair play to the lad. Which club would you choose at the present time?

So you would advocate any player who fancies it just quiting a team and going to one playing better? I`m sure you would be more than happy to let Tee, Miloudi, Sammut etc go to Fev if they want to.

That's a very good point. What's to stop any player saying they're quitting the professional game, going back to the amateur game "for personal reasons" and then signing for another pro club? It's breach of contract by stealth, unless the contract was torn up at that point?

Maybe clubs should be able to keep hold of a player's registration for the remainder of the professional season to prevent this from happening?

At times I think we as a club are too soft with these kind of situations, we have seen in the past we tried to sign a player but their old club wouldn't release the contract. I think there should be control from the RFL in these kind of things, and a fee should definitely be paid, but there's no chance of the RFL giving enough of a damn about clubs at our level to care unfortunately.

If they went back to playing amateur nowt we could do. Don’t think barrow have signed him he’s just been training with them to a get back in to it.

Not signed but was invited to train by Cresta with a view to maybe giving it a go if he likes it.  Barrow have 4 or 5 from Millom so his mates play already. Easy for travel as all go together

Hanley doesn’t live in millom?

But they do, don't they. A club can't easily prevent a player from reverting to the community game (there is no amateur RL now) but they do retain his registration for playing in the pro/semi pro leagues until the end of their contract. The exception would be if the club agreed to the termination of the contract and registration.

Sport, amongst other things, is a dream-world offering escape from harsh reality and the disturbing prospect of change.
