Video ref sounded like he had to put down his crisps when the ref handed it over to him

You sure it wasn't Oliver Russell?

Especially when it has such an impact on the attacking opportunity.

Exactly . The NRL needs to act on this especially , another tackle is not a deterrent . Many of these offences are denying try scoring opportunities near the line and should be professional fouls

That seems odd in commentary that they don’t stop the sin bin clock for a goal kick even if the match clock is stopped. Surely you should be sin binned for ten minutes of game time.

I guess that is the point - it is ten minutes of game time, not ten minutes of the match clock. The match clock stops at forty minutes, but game time can continue if the ball is in play.

The ball isn’t in play when the ref stops the clock.

Sorry I’m with you now your saying the play at the end of the first half after the penalty is where the time went.

Yes what they said in commentary is Croft only served 9 minutes in the sin bin. One of them suggested they must include the time the ref stops the clock in a goal kick. Which I thought can’t be right but JonM has explained it was the time when the clock had hit 40 mins in the first half but there was still a penalty to be taken.

You could imagine an extreme situation where the forty minutes of the first half is up, but the ball stays in play for sixty seconds without a tackle being completed. That sixty seconds counts against the sin-binning, but doesn't show up on the match clock anywhere.

In the case of a penalty, the referee only stops the clock 1 minute 20s after it was awarded. So Huddersfield were using up some of the sin bin time while taking the kick, even after the forty minutes were up.
