Ashton is in Wigan ad is hindley, Haydock is in St Helens, a quick look would help you with geography.

Its also the approach union take to ensure poaching doesn't occur.

Its a much fairer system.

You cannot force young amateur players to play for a particular pro club based on where their amateur club is located

Add to the product, the product is a european super league.

The old scoring system for licensing is a good start, looked at across the board

I’m not entirely sure that worked last time. How do you expect it to work in the future?

As far as I am concerned, any club needs to add to SL by being competitive. Their geography is irrelevant, I would welcome Leigh just as much as Toulouse, or Keighley, or Newcastle. If they can gain promotion and compete, that’s all we need from them.

The simple answer is that all those sports have sustainable leagues below them.

The NFL have 5 minor leagues beneath them plus the college system. The Indian Premier Cricket League - please tell me that you understand cricket is played across all of India. Aussie Rules you have State Competitions. Big Bash cricket (Australia) see IPL example. Japanese baseball have an Eastern and Western minor league.  Major League Baseball has many minor leagues, Independent leagues and College leagues.

In a nutshell all of the teams in the lower leagues understand the relationship with the predominant league.

The crucial difference though is that P&R is not part of the sporting psyche in the those countries.  Those leagues were set up in that way.

The other difference with RL in the UK is that there are only a few teams that are "Super". Leeds, Wigan, St Helens are the only ones that come to mind. Warrington were middle of the road, Cas, Hull, Hull KR, Huddersfield, Salford, Wakey have all spent time outside the top flight during the summer era.

All but 3 or 4 could easily be replaced by teams from the championship and no one would notice the difference.  To pick a closed shop from them would be grossly unfair, they'd be in there because they were in the right place at the right time, not because they were better than their peers, hence the continuing attachment to P&R.

It's a European Super League that doesn't generate much (if any) revenue outside of the UK.

The were never scores for licensing. It was entirely corrupt, the main criteria seemed to be incumbency.

Replace them with expansion sides near to the “heartlands”.

Teams like Manchester, Nottingham and carlisle perhaps?

Wigan is in Manchester , so just incorporate them into Manchester , job solved

Yes Damien , Manchester Monsters playing at the LSV , I'd go with that 👍

Very true Dav but a lot of those lads may just like to have the opportunity to play for their home town club who they may well have supported since being kids.

Corrupt rather than just not particularly well handled?

Many "Fewer" paying fans would be the result of such mergers Ginger, would that be good?

Mergers are a terrible idea.

But even more would prefer to play for the best club their talent allows.

Absolutely. If you're reliant on lads playing for their hometown club/club they support as a child out of pride alone, only Leeds, Wigan and Saints might have competitive outfits.

They already take advantage of that to supplement their already strong academies.
