Why are we going to the Moon again ?

Recommended Posts

The human body is not designed for long trips in space , there is no way ( until we perfect suspended animation/freezing or some other long term ' sleep ' ) we will be going any further than Mars , maybe instead of spending billions of billions trying to get away from our planet , they genuinely start to try to save what's left of it ?

If we’d actually listened to the science in the first place then maybe we wouldn’t be in this position re: the climate.

Why go to the north pole, well going there has taught us a lot and helped us to improve a lot of technologies.

War improves technologies as resources are pumped in to making better weapons. I would sooner space exploration improved our technologies than war.

We were never going further than lands end at one time, flying what aridiculous notion. The two combined, wow we can f!y around the world to places our ancestors never knew existed. Just because your vision cannot go beyond a few years don't ever think your impossible isn't possible. It only takes one break through in physics to change the world.

2,000 generations to reach the nearest planet that might just have usable water , but it has double the gravity , so it would be like carrying somebody of a similar size on your back all the time

Not happening

We had choices that would have made a difference.

Some people chose indifference, ignorance and to vote for something else.

Leaders vowing to ‘get rid of all this green ######’ came along later too and still people gave them power.

Why are we going back to the moon? Maybe Neil Armstrong left his filofax behind?

I can see the point of going to the moon once just to see what its like and have an alien experience with no sound or atmosphere - but no point going more than that - a bit like a visit to the John Smiths stadium

My take on it:

The Ronald Reagan administration stepped up his self-stated Star Wars programme to sort out the Cold War. Russia couldn't afford to keep up the rivalry and panicked that maybe there genuinely was a US military motive behind it.

Gorbachev realised the econmomy and military efficiency of the Soviet Union were both in irreversible decline. He started moves to demolish Russian control over its satellite East European states, in order for Russia to retrench as a major international petrochemical and mineral wealth economy. That dream went belly-up and the Russians ended up with the nutcase Putin (channelling his inner Kruschev) at the helm.

Fast forward another forty years and China is flexing its muscles, threatening to invade Taiwan, crippling western industry by offering a multitude of goods at unmatchable prices and currying favour with minerals-rich foreign kleptocracies.

The USA is using the Regan approach to remind China exactly who is in charge of world peace and, if necessary, a world war.
