Thomas Leuluai to retire

Recommended Posts

Thomas Leuluai announces that he will retire at the end of the season after 20 years of top flight Rugby. What a career he has had and he's won practically everything the game has to offer, including a World Cup:

Wigan Warriors announce that Club Captain Thomas Leuluai will retire at the end of the 2022 season and become Assistant Coach for 2023 and beyond.
After 20 years seasons as a Rugby League professional, Leuluai, 37, will hang up his boots following the conclusion of this campaign.

Leuluai is due to return from injury and is set to feature for Wigan before the end of the season, as he looks to end his career in pursuit of a third Betfred Super League Grand Final trophy.

He will become Assistant Coach and join Head Coach Matt Peet and former teammate and also Assistant Coach Sean O’Loughlin on the Coaching Team.

Leuluai will lead out New Zealand in their World Cup warm-up match against Leeds Rhinos at Headingley Stadium on Saturday 8th October. He will represent his country for one final time, before joining the Coaching Team for the tournament.

What an absolute phenomenal playing career Tommy Leulai has had, in addition to being a stellar servant for Wigan over two spells , winning everything for the club he also achieved so much at international level including that classic 2008 World Cup final .

Good luck with the coaching role Tommy.

If there is one rule in Rugby League when Thomas Leuluai is playing it's 'don't run at the little guy, that won't work today'.

Where's the tribute video?

Showing his highlights, his great passing and kicking game, strong running, deadly tackles and of course his longevity. What about his loyalty to the game, his club and his International team?

There should be one in production as we speak.

If not, it's just another lost opportunity to say a huge thank you (and promote this great game).

I think the word legend is massively overused but in this instance it’s absolutely spot on

Sense of humour as well , back in 2005 us Leythers were getting a tonking by the Broncos at Brentford , once the game had gone we were bored so we started giving Mark Tookey some light hearted attention as they were returning to receive the kick after scoring yet another try

" Who ate all the pies , who ate all the pies , that fat bstrd , that fat bstrd , who ate all the pies " , Tommy walking back first pointed to himself , then shook his head and pointed to Mark walking up behind him , then nodded and ran off to the corner away from Tookey 😂

I think this is a fine example of its overuse.

Great player and a huge achievement to play for as long at a high level. Suspect he is a smart guy and will be a very good coach. Best of luck to him.

I can confirm 30+ less sales for Scotland vs Italy at Workington, after this afternoons test purchase for the Tonga match, £7.50 is extremely reasonable, however a £2.50 'delivery' fee for a walk in purchase is beyond taking the mickey, good luck with that, it's cheaper on the telly.
