For Saints, it is believed that Hopoate and Percival are also missing the play offs too. Dodd and Grace out long term as well. Some rumours that Lees is missing on Saturday, but I think that's just social media talk.

For England, our pack is far weaker than it was a few years ago. I am concerned about our prospects at the World Cup. Tonga and Samoa's improvements are well documented, but New Zealand's squad is outstanding too, more than capable of matching Australia.

It wouldn't surprise me to see England out in the quarter finals.

NZ look like a really good value bet.....

I agree our pack looks lighter than it was but don't underestimate home advantage ....needs all if us to be there and shouting them on though

And yes we may be even have to cheer on Tomkins and do it like we mean it

Betfair Sportsbook - Australia 4/9, NZ 9/2, England 15/2, Tonga 12/1, Samoa 25/1, Fiji 50/1.

Yeah agree NZ prob offer the best value, I had a fairly hefty bet on Tonga last year which is still open but I wouldn’t back them at 12s now.

He'd be a huge loss to England. He is a mountain of a man who I think is one of the few forwards that other countries will be genuinely fearful of due to the way he can punch holes in an oppositions defence

As I said on the England thread, we all know how highly we rate him, I really wanted to see him to perform against the best of the rest to see if he justifies that standing, which I am sure he would have done but there is nothing like having something actually confirmed.

Looking like JWH is getting a 3 game ban, will he still be brought over? A grub he may be but he is still one of the best props around and no one can relish playing against him.

Fisher - Harris , Tapine , NAS , Jesse Bromwich , Hamlin -Uele etc I think they’ll be fine . And if anything JWH seems to be getting even more of a  disciplinary liability as he gets older

Maguire confirmed JWH will still be in his squad, believe they're attempting to get the Leeds warmup counted as well so that he only misses 2 pool games.

All but confirmed that Hopoate is gone for the year, he pulled up in training again this week with his hamstring injury. Percival has been training this week but a decision wont be made on him until the last minute as he has to pass a fitness test. Lees has been on 'light training' this week (no contact) and like Percy will have a fitness test. Mata'utia has been training and looks certain to return so thats one positive for Saints.

I think he will be. Saying that JWH has never performed for NZ and has often been anonymous. His club form and his international displays have often been completely different.

Think NZ are alright for front rowers either way I think ....as long as they don't all start forearm smashing people before the WC fixtures and get banned too

Can I ask what odds did you get?

It's an unusual tournament in that there is no movement between the halves of the draw. Also the two best sides are in the same half.

Therefore I think you have a good Value bet.

Yes obviously designed to suit the home nation and give the tournament it's best chance of financial success, but I can't ever recall the number No 1 & 2 seeds if we can call them that are not seperated in the draw to make the final.

I got 12/1, which I was happy with then but not so much now as I don’t think Tonga are stronger than they were a year ago. Added to that some other teams (eg Samoa) are stronger than they were.  It all depends on who declares for who, it’s absurd that we don’t know this so close to the start of the tournament.

Depends how seeding (if any) was done.

If based on their qualification which came from the last World Cup it would be Australia 1, England 2, Tonga & Fiji 3/4.

If based on ranking I’m not sure but there is a good chance Aus & NZ weren’t 1 and 2 at the time the draw was done.
