Sky don’t tend to showcase anything that they don’t show themselves. As RLWC is not on sky, they don’t focus on it

I guess so but I would thought if they believed it may drive future subscriptions to watch a sport they show almost exclusively over other channels it would be in their interests to advertise aspects.

I guess they know it don't drive subscriptions as only Premier league does.

It's just how they operate.............even Champions League doesn't get a big focus from Sky now they no longer show it

No different to the BBC, then, who hardly give any news coverage to SuperLeague games during the season. Now they are covering the World Cup, our code is featured widely in the BBC News.

I don't think not being on TV has stopped the game expanding. As you say the game has been on TV plenty over the years and not substantially grown.

This is quite true. However, when tv exposure was at its maximum in the 60s and 70s on Grandstand, RL was effectively banned by the RU. Think how much easier it would have been to set up RL clubs in the south had that not been the case. With the current world cup coverage and if C4 can expand its terrestrial coverage to a match per week or so I think the game could grow more easily.

Let's not forget that before the establishment of BARLA, in 1973, the number of amateur rugby league clubs had dropped to about 150. Despite all that FTA TV exposure.

When I was a lad RL was on every week on the BBC - 4pm Grandstand, the second half of a league match. Granted the commentary played up to northern stereotypes a bit but it got the game noticed all over the country and it had a large following in the southern half of Britain. Now except for a few Challenge Cup games (and this year C4) it is virtually invisible on terrestrial tv. Newspaper coverage has shrunk similarly.

The game isn't going to expand and grow if people can't see it.

Say newspapers in general have shrunk and they are all chasing readership. That's why most are full of bitesize stories, gossip and football mass appeal for minimal column space. You may get a half page on RU or the cricket (international only)

Sadly the only way of getting an interest article on anything is to get a specialist publication such as sports mag the cricket paper rugby papers or the Economist etc.
