Way too early Predictions

Recommended Posts

Now it’s over guesses for three leagues here.

SL: Wigan

Relegated: Wakefield

Champ Toulouse

Relegated: Whitehaven, Newcastle

League 1 : No idea really so lets go Doncaster.

Spoon: WWR

All three divisions look most open in years. No one seemingly buying League 1 or Champ as Toulouse are probably locked in SL soon so real chance to make a move. Coach change at Saints. The only thing we know for sure is it isn’t Warrington’s year.

Newcastle going down would be terrible for the game.

There must be one worse side in the Champ? Whitehaven?

Two go down. So haven plus Newcastle. Maybe Swinton but with Newcastle cutting back and being poor last season, plus Keighley not going down means someone who was up last year.

If the academy stays open long term I think they are ok as IMG will maybe look to assist but feels very London Broncos last year.

Haven seem to lose a few each year but also seem to do well with replacing them especially with Aus/NZ recruits.

Newcastle weren't very good last year, lost their last 7 or 8 matches I believe, and seem to have basically been asset-stripped since they announced they were cuttung back -  they have lost Woods, Shorrocks, Ta'ai, Wilde, Eaves, Clark, Day, Dee, Robson and Peachey and I'm not sure those they have brought in (so far) come close to replacing them in terms of overall talent level. Maybe a bunch of their ex-academy lads will take a big leap forward, but Newcastle look to lack quality at present.

How galling would it be for IMG if two of the clubs who run academies were relegated from the champ.

I suspect they had an idea it was over so to speak.

Also would be gd to see Rams win a few as done it tough last few years.

SB does like to write Whitehaven off before each season, usually based on no actual knowledge of club.

Once again Haven’s performance will depend on avoiding the horror run of early season ending injuries they suffered last season & how the imports go.

Agreed, despite my little joke above I think Haven have enough to stay up. Signed some good solid pros and as usual will be hard to beat on their own patch.

Newcastle will be interesting, if they try to play "Thormanball" then they will struggle massively just as Town did.

Pretty much nailed on that Saints will be in the play-offs, in 25Yrs of SL Play-off's they are the only team to play in every single series. Whether they win the hubcap I think depends on what happens with the WCC. If they go to Aus they've got an extra game to cram in somewhere along the year, and its almost inevitable that they'll send their A Team to Cas in Round 2 and save their players for their first home game the week later against Leeds.

Wellens may be a bit of an 'unknown' as a new coach but its largely the same squad of players so I don't think it will change how the team play too much. They won it last year missing Dodd & Grace for most of the season, Percival for large parts of it and Walmsley for the run-in and final, so just getting 3 of those back plus Riston in place of Grace will make a huge difference.

I think Wigan will be the biggest challengers to Saints title this year, followed by Leeds & Hudds. Hull & Wire will be the big improvers (lest face it thats not hard for Wire though is it 😉 ), but still can't see either of them being serious title contenders again.

Think you edited my list there. If Leigh win SL I will be amazed. 33/1 but if Leigh have a semi decent start there are going to be a lot of nervous teams out there.  Just having a look at the odds Leeds look generous at 8/1

Imagine how funny it would be seeing them lift the famous trophy in that shirt. Beaumont beaming whilst dressed like Mel B! I'm all for it!

Well it would be a story that´s for sure. I just looked at their opening fixtures and they have Salford and Hull KR between Catalan away and Saints at home. So a win in first four games will be vital.

Featherstone (at last).

I'll take that.

Looking at squads so far, we do look to be out there as leaders.  We've been here before though and I'll not be bigging up our chances until/unless we're two scores up with a minute left of the grand final.

As for the rest:

Saints

Wakefield (at last 😃)

Swinton, Newcastle

Doncaster (at last), Dewsbury

Sort of thing that would be popular in the heartlands though.

Yes I would also like to see Doncaster up there, if only so they could have a proper go at marketing Sheffield vs Doncaster and maybe enough critical mass between both to look at working together of youth developement.
