I try - unsuccessfully- not to get too excited about pre-season friendlies. Last year (was it last year?) I was flooded with optimism and excitement after a draw that could easily have been a win against Super League (for now) Wakefield. And then the season began...

Me too.

Rochdale Hornets will travel to the Vestacare Stadium to take on local rival Oldham, for the Law Cup, on January 29 as preparations for the 2023 Betfred League 1 campaign continue.

This should not be on a thread headed “friendly”…no hornets yeds encounter is ever friendly. Its a pre season battle for bragging rights until good friday.

Let battle commence. Cumon ornits.

Interesting footnote to the Derby. It's been played since 1921 and of the 69 meetings, Oldham have won it 46 to Rochdale's 21 with 2 drawn. Also, over the last 10 meetings the average winning margin has been just 9 points.

It would be nice if all of those who use the forums could meet up for a drink before the game to put faces to non-de-plumes i.e. false names for those who don't speak Yonner!
