Music, beer and rugby league is a perfect night out for me...

Apologies for the posting mistake.

I’m genuinely interested in this.

I’m old and old-fashioned, and have no objection to being regarded as so. My pleasure in a rugby match has been the anticipation, the walk or drive to the game the chat about prospects and the opposition, the gathering of the clans as you approach the ground, the look of that green rectangle as you come out onto the terracing, meeting the usual crew around your normal location, the interest of the team announcement, the gathering excitement as kick-off nears, the absolute intensity with which you involve yourself in the action, missing not one single aspect of each moment’s play. The half-time analysis, the effect of the substitutes. And of course, the conclusion of the game. And then there’s the after match discussion on the way home, perhaps including a call at the pub. I have no need for more. I have no need for music, if fact, always find it annoying. And there are a couple of the common songs which I would be grateful never to hear again in my life. A half-time disc-jockey can destroy the pleasure of those spare minutes of discussion outside of actual play. Going for beer, juggling a pint glass, just another distraction. (when did beer become essential to the experience? It has not always been so) I in no way claim my desired experience to be superior to the modern expectations of a matchday experience, and if the modern approach brings in new fans, so much the better. In fact, intensify the experience if so.

I simply wonder how far I have drifted from modern requirements. Am I the last of my breed? Is there anyone left who feels as I do?

I don't think there's much more to it than people like different things.

As a man in my forties, going to the pub, watching sport, and watching live music are three of my favourite things to do socially. Based on the stadoum environment, they work well together.

And music has always been a part of sport, right back to the community singalong at Wembley, but certainly in the last three decades or so, its become the norm. Similarly beer has been a big part of sport and other similar events for a long time.

People expect a little more nowadays. Facilities are better, sound systems more modern, things can be put on, and we should embrace that.

I understand your point that music can sometimes be a bit invasive, but tbh, I have never found it so loud that I can't have a chat with who I'm with.

Thanks for that. I'm certainly not disagreeing with you. And I'm comfortable with being out of date.

I’ve got absolutely zero interest in watching pre match entertainment but I can see why people would, especially families.

I resemble all the remarks you have made in your post Cerulean, albeit has you say if it gets more in the grounds then I will put up with it, saying that I will turn up much earlier than I usually do at Leigh - my son says I have to do - and take it from there.

Its not necessarily out of date, but just that there are more businesses competing for spectators money.

I watch both.

The Lathums are Latics fans of a fashion I’d imagine. They aligned with them when they had financial problems and helped raise some money but it always felt a bit like it was a good opportunity for both parties, with their profile being raised in to the bargain. I could be wrong but they’re the only Wigan Athletic fans I’ve heard refer to the club as ‘The Athletics’.

Stage being erected ready for scouting for girls, looks to be around 7.5k tickets sold so far and sales still going fairly steady.

Think there is more than 7.5k sold.

One of my mates is a big Salford Fan and he states there isnt many tickets left in the South, so it looks like 3 sides may be full by Tuesday with the other half of the East being available up to kick off.

Could be a five digit crowd which would be some achievement.

That would be a really impressive start.

(TBH, the matchday set up is looking like the standard that others should be aiming for too.)

Knocker Norton wil be delivering the match ball onto the pitch for the Hull FC v Cas game on Sunday week.

Also Hull FC season ticket holders can buy two extra tickets for £10 (£5 each) so should be a decent turnout.

Over thirty years since they last appeared on the big screen together, Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins have been offered starring roles in a film based on events at Wembley Stadium on Saturday 12th August 2023. It is hoped that "Silenced by the Lams" will be a box office success.

I can confirm next Friday's weather will be torrential rain with 60 mph winds

This is the standard weather everytime Leigh put anything on pre match

Do you work for the marketing team, 7-7500 my ariss probably about 4K sold so far - I’ll be buying at least 7 but I ain’t exactly panicking yet - where are you looking to come up with that figure, because I’m looking at the available seats and there’s a chuck load - lots lots more than 1k or so

Where did you learn to count the north stand holds 4k and that sold out 2 days ago.

There's about 8k sold and more tickets going to Salford tomorrow. Should hopefully beat the 9k Saints attendance in 2017 to be the highest attendance for a paid gate for leigh at LSV

That post of mine was over 2 weeks ago, since then my 7 have been bought and very pleased to see that many others have gone for it - still plenty left, in the east especially, but a lot will go to the”last minuters”

hats off to the club for the promotion of this, hopefully get the win and the majority will return- think our next home games are Saints and Wigan, so plenty of incentive to attend again

Well I will certainly be applauding everyone at leigh from DB right down to the fans of both clubs who turn up. Looks like a well planned and executed promotion.

Let's not nitpick about it being sold out or not, this is still a terrific effort from Leigh. I'm sure it will be tempting lots of lapsed fans (or never weres) into coming along.

Don't forget, we've seen seasoner openers among 'lower' clubs of 3-4K or so, hope it goes as well as possible and Leigh are rewarded with a few new fans.

But could there really?

This is a club that could only get 7200 for a home Grand Final to get into Superleague.

Are they really going to get 10,000 against Salford?
