RL Commercial - Paying peanuts to get ...

Recommended Posts

RL Commercial is recruiting for a Senior Marketing Manager.

Assuming this actually is the job that one person is expected to do then I have only one comment.

Look at that salary.

Wow. The quality of candidates against the job spec will likely be very low

I sometimes vehemently disagree with your views, however you are so right here. This shows just how far out of touch the "leaders" of are with reality.

The job is listed as £34,138 to £37,551.  A quick bit of research shows that Glassdoor has the average Senior Marketing Manager role in Manchester at £48,127 while Indeed has £50,653 so it feels about £10-15k light.

But this forum abounds with people certain that they can do a trillion times better than the current mob, and who aren't even on that kind of advertised salary.

Is this actually a genius "Moneyball" style pitch for undervalued talent that's flown under the radar? :kolobok_wink:

Not me.  I'm bloody useless.

Should be £50k in Manchester

The spec shows it as a number 3 role, under a day-to-day Head and presumably some sort of overall Commercial/Growth lead. So it’s not as far off as some think, but definitely the bottom end for that job. Won’t get the best people, at all. Even with the “I want to work in sport” discount you do get.

Apparently this site says I "won the day" here on 23rd Jan, 19th Jan, 9th Jan also 13th December, whatever any of that means. Anyway, 4 times in a few weeks? The forum must be going to the dogs - you people need to seriously up your game. Where's Dutoni when you need him?

On the one hand - yes, it's not too badly far off (although it is far off) for a number 3 role.

On the other - assuming that those responsibilities are at least vaguely true than it is both massively underpaid and far too large for one person to make a success of.

It also states that "this is not a 9 - 5 job" of course it isn't with all those tasks and responsibilities it would be at least a 16 hour a day job plus weekends as well, I would guess in reality it would be under the present living wage rate of £10.42 per hour for the hours that would have to be put in.

You could start on some pretty normal level job in London on that sort of money.

Yeah that's the one where you live like that MP's staffer, isn't it?

Yeah agree it's underpaid. At that level £10k is the gap between capable-but-average, and excellent. But it's a poorly written job ad so hopefully just looks worse than it is? This could just be merely the senior specialist in a team of other people with experience, there's no direct reports so the other marketing exec roles must all report to the 'Head of'. If the team has 3 or 4 others in it its enough. Mind you, if there's only 1 other person alongside them then I'd agree we're f*****.

Oh God, as I type this I'm realising it probably is just 2 people... er....

Oh you mean RL's version of the cast of The Longest Day!

I think the salary might be an indication of either IMG's commitment, seriousness or their cheapness.

IMG are providing staff to the project at their own cost, we are not paying for those (other than through a gainshare on the upside, in the future). The roles we’re talking about here are instead a reflection of their partner’s own appetite to invest - the RFL - so no you don’t get to lay this one at IMG’s door however much you’d prefer to.
