Match thread: Championship Round 1: Keighley v Featherstone. Monday 6th February.

I thought Keighley played well against what was an excellent performance by Fev. Keighley just need a bit of grunt in the forwards to compliment their footballing ability. They will give some championship sides a lot of trouble. To keep them to nil was outstanding.

Excellent opener - Keighley were very poor - i dont remember them actually getting any remotely close to our tryline

i think we only gave away 2 pens all game as wll

i worry Riley Dean will become the main mam the. Wire will recall him

Thought it was a decent start, with Dean and the pack particularly strong. Still looked a little clunky in attack, but it was the first proper match. Sunday will give us more of an idea, as Keighley did look s little outclassed, although to be fair to them, they put a massive effort in.

Really impressed with the defensive effort last night although the attack still needs a little more work, that being said the pitch didn’t look very wide on the tv. Anyone heard how Gale got on with his HIA guess if he failed it that’s 12 days on the sidelines although we have plenty of cover.

You boys were far too good for us last night . I think the opening 10/15 mins were relatively even (when we actually completed a set) but once you guys scored and middles started really dominating, the flood gates opened.

We looked undercooked and I lost count of the amount of handling errors and sloppy passes we made. You could tell we haven't had many minutes. The only saving grace is I'm glad it was you guys first up as I dont think we could live with you even on a going day. If we had played like that in League one last season we would have struggled.

Hopefully we have some bodies back for Widnes this Sunday but would like us to sign another big prop, maybe 2, but can't see it unfortunately.

I'd be shocked if you guys weren't clear top of the table come end of the season. So much quality and depth, I think it'll be hard for anyone to stop you. Good luck!

I think Keighley will be fine as there are teams who they should beat especially at home.

I think we will be fine too. I'm not going to go over the top because you beat us. I think you'll do that to a lot of teams this year.

We need to improve quickly in a short space of time. Quick turn around to go to Widnes this Sunday but we've got to believe that we will be much better after getting some minutes on the clock.

We've been building over the years and still haven't got up but  this is definitely an improvement on last year's team and DEFINITELY an improvement in coach,so we shall see.

Can't imagine any team will have answer for your pack. It was just relentless. Mackenzie Yei is going to cause carnage 😂

It's more than likely they will recall him for their play-offs, and for that reason I hope that Wire finish mid-table, outside the play-off positions.

Should think that we will be ok, unless Williams or Drinkwater pick up and injury.

Exactly M you don't sign Drinkwater on a two year deal if Riley is  going to feature in any of your plans going forward

Or preferably where they finished last season.

Steve's right in what he says.  If Warrington look like getting to the play-offs they will have to make a decision about whether to recall Dean or not before the last game of the regular season. So from their POV you'd say it would be foolish not to recall Dean as if one of their starters got inuured in the last round of the regular season or early in the playoffs they wouldn't be able to recall him.

The silver lining is that Warrington have a very promising young half back called Leon Hayes and if he looks established as their third half back by then maybe they will leave Riley here.

Either way, I'm sure Long & Pryce will want to have a few looks at Lacans at half back to see if he is up to the task of being a starting half back for us in the play-offs, if we reach them.

Well, that was a very positive and promising performance. Augurs well for the rest of the season, but it's very early days.

FWIW I think Keighley will be ok, and hopefully they won't be shell shocked too much by that score. Hard not to smile at people slating L.Gale & Chizz when they didn't stand a chance behind that pack.

All our middles were fantastic and laid the platform. Unlike last season the backs really got into gear off the back of that go-forward.

I've said it before, but I'm mystified how fans can pick three players out if that XVII for man of the match. Great team effort.

There were a good few could have got in the top 3 chosen like you say.

Now the dust has settled I watched another podcast for a preview for last nights game  and gledhill said there's been some tight narrow and highly competitive games and tonight's  game is going to be  the same

Then gales agent knob jockey harrison said when cougars have good ball and are shifting out of yardage it will be very hard to  handle they will throw shapes that will be spectacular that have never been seen in the championship while featherstone are slow they're  big and strong but not  quick ruckside and don't pay breathtaking rugby

Any way gledhill FEV by 10 another lad FEV by 12 knob jockey cougars by 8 and his ####### son cougars by 4

Probably said Batley would get beat too, because they’d seen us pre season at York and we’d lost Gilmore 😂
