Mayfield in the cup

With no game next weekend lets all get behind the Mayfield lads, many of them ex Hornets, in their attempt to reach the 5th round of the cup next Saturday.

 

1pm ko at Mayfield, admission a tenner, kids free.

Lets hope that we have a big crowd on the day. Parking and road works on the main road near the old Castleton Baths are going to be a big problem. So arrive early. Please respect our neighbours when driving through the housing estate and observe the 20MPH rule.

Absolutely, and a great Mayfield performance.  It’s the *0’s since I was on the ground and two mates went for trials.  
Also, had many a traipse up Partington Street to aunt and uncle whose allotment backed the ground. Has much changed?

Last time I was up Partington St Cassie Moor were playing Littleborough and Gary Sobers made about 140 odd.

Had left Rochdale by then, but remember much earlier at Dane St., Gary Sobers playing against Rochdale’s pro Phadkar; also Roy Gilchrist on his long bowling run-up from the boundary.  Someone shouted from the crowd “open’t bl**dy gate for him!”.

So you folks saying how long its been since you went to mayfield….were you not at the cup game against Hornets?

A very commendable 12-22 loss for Mayfield, especially to beat Thunder in the second half 6-0! 

Trust they were rewarded with a full house.

A fantastic performance by Mayfield. All 17 never took a backward step. Held up over the line 5 or so times. one disallowed for a double movement. Newcastle were made to look distinctly average and not a championship side. With a little more luck and a better rub of the green Mayfield could have caused a massive upset. Well done guys you did the club proud.

Current ground….a cold wet day in February I think. Mayfield gave it a good shot but after opening 10 mins Hornets were always in control.

Well done to Mayfield, seems they really put in a shift. They even beat them 6nil in the second half. Very creditable performance.

I must have been there then. The “ cold wet day in Feb “ rings a bell. It was freezing.
