Without taking the thread too far of course, I'm interested about whether as a New Zealander, your post means that (outside of the national team and the Warriors) you don't have any interest in New Zealand RL and its comps?

Yep. Was watching a bit of club footy over the summer when I was in NZ.

It is happily amateur over there. It is not pretending to be professional.

Always a final dig at UK RL in every post..... maybe we have semi pro clubs is because the clubs can afford to pay players over here? If they couldnt aford to pay players they wouldnt - just a thought.

It takes wisdom to know when a discussion has run its course.

It takes reasonableness to end that discussion.

Going to be massive for Sheffield to be back playing in the city.

It’s good to see Barrow’s crowds haven’t dwindled much, despite their poor form and the football team’s relatively good form.

Pretty positive overall and with some great games so far and summer around the corner hope they keep increasing.

You got to love the fans of Champ and Lg1 teams who keep loyal to their teams and just love a good game of Rugby.

It doesn't quite fit in with your statement - "Nothing personal mate, but I only follow the pro game. No interest in the amateur stuff but if that floats your boat, I am delighted to hear you had a good day".  But great, I'm glad to hear it.

So zero interest in "low level, part time League", but an advocate of full-time professional RL and recreational RL (in NZ at least).

In the UK we're fortunate enough to have a system that caters for clubs that fit between those two binaries. That is of benefit to players who don't quite make it as full-time professionals and as a fan I personally think it is a highlight of our rugby league culture.

Apologies to all for the tangent away from attendance.

Pedantry I know, but wasn't that the first ever match at the LNER Community Stadium for the 'Valkyrie'? They were York City Knights Women last season. This was always going to be a new record Valkyrie crowd! 🤣

It would of course been more difficult/cumbersome to word the tweet to say what they are trying to say.

I don't know tbh, a fan did highlight that the mens team were averaging that level just a few years ago, so its a massive achievement.

I wonder if there has been any impact on the Knights' following (positive or negative).

The other top women's sides (Leeds & Saints) are part of clubs with a bigger supporter base and their men's teams are more likely to play on Thursday/Friday night and not clash. Both York teams played on Sunday, there could have been some who would have travelled to Halifax but stayed in York to watch the women instead.

Where do London's figures come from? They dont announce attendance figures and there is no way they are averaging over 1000

There were undoubtedly a few who didn't travel to Fax to watch the Knights on Sunday (and the Valkyrie games are on the Knights season ticket), but if you look at the match thread on the Knights section on this site, you'll find a (much-appreciated) thumbs-up for the noisy York away support posted by a Fax fan.

Top attendance last year for the Valkyrie for a standalone fixture was 850, boosted by a great turn-out from Oulton Raidettes supporters, whose under 16's were on the under-card playing Leigh in a championship final.

Valkyrie have their own fans too - lots of girls and young women coming to see them play.
