Announced ahead of the financial report to soften the blow?

Maybe announced because it's worth announcing in its own right?

In my view, it's important as it is evidence that can be used in support of further investment.

Totally agree.. Thats why I feel its important. If people want to invest in something that benefits communities (some companies would love this positive community based news) this could be seen to be great news and a sign that we are a place this can happen.

Taking it to an extreme and becuase of the badge as your avatar the Man City owners have invested heavily in the surrounding community and get positive headlines and press around that which helps them to win over the fans/city when there is negative press around too.

It is also good for governing body funding/govt funding if you can show this type of ROI, the intangibles are, by definition, difficult to quantify and to put infront of people in a presentation with any certainty when requesting grants but information like this that can be quoted gets you a leg up on people who still just have them as "we know this, but cant show it".

Window dressing what about the main mens tournament ?

hugely important window dressing, and it was about the entire package so included the mens tournament.

if the game as a whole can get more funding due to the impact the game as a whole can have on the community then the game as a whole can expand and benefit.. the mens game is part of the whole game and therefore will benefit.

The " positive difference in communities and grassroots rugby league, especially in deprived areas." will include female and male able bodied and not so the mens game will benefit from increased exposure and therefore potential supporters and players of the future.

You can play a leftie Buzzword Bingo with that report... community, impact, deprived, grassroots, social investment... ad nauseum.

True but lets face it, is not bad timing when the next government will be "lefty" and many councils and MPs in the area are, or will be next time around, "lefty" and many funding bodies are too..

Obviously this is good news and these are the sort of statistics the sport can use when it comes to seeking additional funding and sponsors. While I have no doubt there is a large amount of fluff and window dressing it is what all sports do, as does practically every organisation and business.

I can hardly be described as a leftie, but I do feel that these are important words and this is an important report from UK Sport.  Rugby union, for example, seems to have a "social club" sort of presence in many towns in a volume that we just do not have. This report could in my view be used to help us remedy that imbalance.

Bingo. We can hardly say that rugby league is an important community sport and then disparage the words used to connect rugby league with that community, or be pleased to see activities to build and grow that community.

Au contraire.. its Rugby Legaue, we can very much do something as self defeating as that..
