Well that is a refreshing update

Whats been announced so far is just the exact same failed approach as at least the last 3 years. All the English coaches come across for a few meaningless Dublin 'trials' then disappear with nothing else in Ireland for another 2 months. These aren't trials, far from them, the coaches have no idea who is who at them and make no attempt to even find out. It's just a box ticking exercise. If Scotland are ditching their English trials that is huge progresss. This is just the same.

It's sad how despite all the criticism still nothing changes. The current regime really needs to go and be replaced by people that take building the game up in Ireland seriously.

The ongoing situation is throughly depressing and has alienated many good volunteers who want to progress the game in Ireland. There's far more people no longer involved now with the game in Ireland than actually are because of the current regime.

I was under the impression no Irish trials have been taking place in other years. If as you say it is, then yeah, same old same old

Zero Irish accents in the team I assume?

It says "all Ireland" team, which implies the players come from Ireland but who knows

That may just be wishful thinking

All Ireland usually refers to teams that represent the Republic and Northern Ireland, not necessarily that the players are domestic.

Only a problem in this particular sport for some reason.

The link says it’s the result of work in Ireland.

A problem in any sport that wants to have legitimate development.

Realistically the way forward is developing their own juniors, and cut the umbilical cord of heritage players. Yes it take time and is hard work, but it needs to be done

Id love to know when and where these Ireland skills sessions were because i cant see evidence of them. Just to note the Ireland u16s team from the summer was hardly home grown:

Darn it.   I knew it was too good to be true.

At a guess its probably the lads who attended the couple of sessions in Dublin who weren't then picked for Ireland for the matches in the summer with heritage players picked instead.

I know RL doesnt have the funds of the NFL but its interesting to see the contrasting development routes taken in somewhere like Ireland. As a sport we are still very much stuck in the people will just play it for just because reasons mentality:

Rugby League  is content just to do nothing.

More was done during  the height  of bans than at present.

I'm reminded of the adage, that "If the mountain won't come to Muhammad, Muhammad must go to the mountain" but in Rugby League's case they are still waiting for the mountain to come to them.
