The Art of Hand and Foot Posted April 9 Posted April 9 Tried quoting Brookie, but the threads been locked. Cian Tyrer, who you had on loan last week, returned to the yeds and scored a double hat trick. The last player to do that for Oldham was the great Ike Southward in 1960. Don't know what you feed em up there but it's working wonders for us. 5 1

Derwent Posted April 10 Posted April 10 I remember seeing a documentary about Town with Ike and Andy Key being interviewed and they asked Ike where he got his speed from. In his own inimitable fashion he said "I had 3 owlder brothers, so I ran to git yam frae school afor them so I'd git fed frae t'fust pan o' chips". 1 3 I’m not prejudiced, I hate everybody equally
Jimmy DoNut Posted April 10 Posted April 10 (edited) Some of Ike's family came to one of our games last year to receive his Oldham Heritage Certificate, was lovely to meet them. I believe he was our record signing from Town at the time & then we sold him back to you 2 years later for our record sale! Edited April 10 by Jimmy DoNut 2

ivans82 Posted April 10 Posted April 10 According to Joe Hollidays book on the Town , we sold him to Oldham for £10,650 to set a world record . We then paid Oldham £11,002.10s , which was 50 shillings more than St Helens had paid Wigan for Mick Sullivan , to once again set the world record . 3
Joe Aitcheson Posted April 10 Posted April 10 Ike once told me that the fee was £11,000 plus the price of a bottle of whisky ( hence £2 and 10 shillings) to create a new world record… chairman Tom’s idea! 5 1

Over £210,000 in todays money! Boxers 30k move to Whitehaven in 1980 would be worth over £120,000 today we will never see those type of deals in RL again ! 1

Ike Southward would be scoring for fun. 2 1

Aye, and lets not forget that the corner flag was "in touch" back then - half the tries scored by wingers today would have been disallowed back then. 1 I’m not prejudiced, I hate everybody equally

The Warrington corner flag try yesterday was insane, he was virtually sitting in the front row of the stand when he grounded it. 1
