Jesus wept if the powers that be are seeing the return of county games and Great Britain as the way forward.

Eeee, and we'll get the game on Grandstand, you see if we don't.

Perhaps a damning line from the article that epitomises where RL is at in this country and why:

An early proposal Rugby League Live has learned of would have seen both the War of the Roses and the mid-season Test series take place, but it's thought that clubs aware of the plan were reluctant to add more games to the calendar or sacrifice a home game to make it happen.

Still the best of a bad bunch, and 2 roses trial games leading into the best international available sounds like a great idea until Southern Hemisphere teams are willing to come here for a mid-season window.

So apparently IMG are reading my posts for ideas. All you naysayers are not in such a majority as you think as the poll on this thread suggests, with the results being tighter than opinions on Brexit.

As for IMG. If you are indeed reading this, you can message me privately. I've got plenty more ideas you can use.

A poll that is against its return. Even worse a poll amongst the very demographic that I imagine would be more in favour of it.

I'd hardly say 52-48 is decisive. Also the comments on here would give you the impression that nobody thinks it's a good idea. To me the demographic on this site generally sways towards traditionalism.

To be fair, sacking off a full round of games for a 7k game that'll be binned off in a couple of years is a bad idea.

More decisive than Brexit, to be fair.

Whereas a gap in the schedule for Super League would give players a chance to recover, and clubs to get out into the community to build interest (based on week 1 attendances they don't seem to be able to market more than one game at a time and a longer lead time helps.

I can sort of agree, but equally it demonstrates our almost complete inability to build anything long term or think big picture at times. It's a problem endemic in the sport.

I will half challenge that view. The clubs have broadly always supported and accommodated space in the calendar for internationals and roses etc. Our clubs have supported tests in Warrington, Sydney and Dencer during the season.

I think the ideas and delivery needs to be better. If this does come off, let's see what IMG come up with.

Over the passed few years the RFL turned down 2 offers of test matches at Premier league grounds.

In fact in both cases they failed to even follow up on the offer (Not the current regime) one club even offered their stadium for free in London for a New Zealand test match.

Madness 😠

Am I missing something here? Origin is massive in NRL and this is our closest equivalent, isn't it? Yet instead of hyping it as Aus seem to, people seem to be really anti and talk it down as a 'county cup'. I'm just wondering whether it's because of prior experience, or people not wanting the impression of a parochial sport where NSW and Queensland are a greater chunk of Aus population and more influential  / central so it's OK over there...?

Or just because it is 2 counties playing against eachother and its big in Aus doesn't mean it's going to be big in the UK.

Yes - lots of people identify with Yorkshire if they're from it, and are very proud of it. Lancashire doesn't quite have the same "patriotism" going for it.

Definitely not in the same way that it is for QLD and NSW.

If we're going fo full Flat Capper why not, Battle of Brexit?

British Lions vs EU

Between France, Italy, Ireland eligible players you'd scrape up a decent team.

As always marketing is the key. Need the EU guys to go full pro wrestling and heel it up to create that "us against them" mentality.

If you bring back the WOR go full GOT with it, market it as House York vs House Lancaster.

I think the biggest thing,  ignoring whether any of our clubs are even in Lancashire. is that this is something we've had before and binned off due to lack of real interest.

What will be different this time?

If anyone can make it work, great, but there is nothing to suggest there's a demand for this.
