1. As I understand it Briers doesn’t want a head coaching gig, as he thinks he doesn’t have the right temperament for it. He sees head coaching as needing to be hyper detail orientated week by week and game by game, and he much prefers working with individuals and “bigger picture” targets (like “make the attack better”).

2. He would have stayed in Aus but his wife is homesick, and already come back over.

3. He wouldn’t have come to Saints if it weren’t for his relationship with Wellens. Suggestion is that this has played a part in Wellens getting an extension.

That’s interesting insight and tells us that he has a good grasp on what will make him happy at work rather than just aiming for the highest position possible.

He did a great job at Wigan with Matty Peet revamping the attack and improving skills.

Maybe he could ultimately be well suited to a Director of Rugby role getting the club philosophically aligned from 1st team down to scholarship level.

Reminds me of Pat Richards a bit, very reliable

Like Richards, he also has a very good kicking boot.

Pangai Jr will spend more time at the judiciary than on the field

By the looks of things, he’ll be spending more time in fast food outlets. He was embarrassing in the game against the Knights, I’m surprised Bennett hasn’t booted him. He was blowing hard after 5 minutes. He’s at least a stone overweight. It’s such a shame because he was one of the most promising props in the game when he was at Brisbane, a destructive ball runner. Now he’s just an overweight penalty machine and an impulsive offloader, often when it’s not on.

I hope the Dragons can revitalise him but if Bennett can’t then I don’t hold out much hope that the south of France will

Zak Woolford following in his Fathers footsteps and signing for Fartown on a 1 year deal, if the Parcell rumour has any truth and it happens then i'd be more than happy with those with Deakin and Rush as backup, can't be any worse than what we have now.

What's happening to Milner?

Jordan Rapana to Hull, two year deal.

It does seem like there are going to be a fair few 35+ players going around next year.

I can confirm 30+ less sales for Scotland vs Italy at Workington, after this afternoons test purchase for the Tonga match, £7.50 is extremely reasonable, however a £2.50 'delivery' fee for a walk in purchase is beyond taking the mickey, good luck with that, it's cheaper on the telly.

Out of contract, 1 year extension not actived.

To be honest him and Golding are hardly top hookers so we definitely need 1 if not 2.

He's a better loose forward than hooker in my eyes but there's too much competition and the form of Cudjoe meant he wasn't gonna get a go there.

Woolford is a steady enough player, marginally better than Milner at 9. He’s an old school style nuggety 9, decent defender, won’t offer a lot in attack.

Deakin looks very much a project player when I’ve seen him, not up to SL standard atm

Good signing I reckon. Obviously his age makes it a bit of a gamble, but he has always looked after himself and has never really been a player that has had problems with injuries. I've watched the Raiders a few times this year and he's still playing at a high level. Seems like a good guy to bring in when you are talking about changing the attitude and culture.

It almost certainly means Walker will be leaving. Its been rumoured for a while, and I fully expect that Rapana is coming over to play FB. He should prove to be a good mentor for Logan Moy.

A backline of Rapana, Martin, Hardaker, Litten and Briscoe isn't the worst I've ever seen by any means. A couple of exciting youngsters and a few old heads who have won everything in the game between them. Pace might be a concern though, Martin is the only one with any real speed.

Gil Dudson to Oldham on 2 year contract

TotalRLarticle here seeks to explain why he signed for Oldham https://www.totalrl.com/why-gil-dudson-turned-down-super-league-offers-to-join-oldham/

The answer is Oldham's "vision". I wonder if it was just the fact that Oldham simply offered more vision than the other competing clubs, or whether it was the fact that they offered two years of vision rather than one? 😀

Canberra offering big money for Danny Walker, but Warrington not budging.   I wonder whether they will improve his deal in a bid to tempt him to stay.   Hopefully not improved beyond his worth though, as Warrington have done in the past with certain players.

I know there have been some that have rejected the chance like Roby, but it surprises me that we haven't had more hookers make a go of the NRL other than Josh Hodgson. SL has always had good pedigree for producing top quality hookers.

Wonder what the attraction is!

Same as any other club really, salary, security and ideally part of a winning culture (but winning trophies is really restricted to a handful of clubs).

Oldham has a vision to re-establish itself within the rugby league community, starting within the town, and are implementing various initiatives that will bear long term benefit but it obviously helps having a competitive / successful team & to do that at this level means spending money as clubs don’t have reserve teams

Harry, it’s going to take time. We will get there eventually. The club have a five year plan to aim for SL

Just like Mr Beaumont at Leigh albeit you are coming from further back Sheddings, I sincerely hope you manage to do it, but the path to SL is much more bumpy these days and far harder than doing it the proper way on the field of play.

Sounds like the right tool for the job.  If it ain't broke don't fix it.
