Mourgue needs a fresh start. He's a 6 but has been played at 1 and 9 for too long and is just not developing. Should have done this 2 years ago.

He's not displacing Lewis at 6, we've signed him to replace Evalds who will be 32 by the end of the season

Rovers will no doubt pick up a new #7 at some point in 2025 ahead of the following season, I think Peters knows the Lewis/May combination is sub-optimal. May brings a lot and Lewis has now got the game management role, but May's lack of a kicking game has held us back, makes our end of sets too predictable and reduces Lewis run threat on the 5th too. Specifically it lost us the away game at Wigan, and a poor May kick selection was a turning point in the Grand Final.

I thought Hull KR had high hopes for young Laulu-Togagae

Don't think he's up to it. This season we'll see if he can step up in the Championship, but I think it's a very big "if" and you can't build your plans on hope eh.

I’d disagree, before this year, yes. But he has developed his game a lot this season after becoming Catalans regular starting FB. He’s developed his general attacking/decision making and passing game heaps. Not to mention he is a brilliant goal kicker, which (Hull KR need). His safety under the high ball as improved heaps as well as his defence, and as you mentioned he’s running game is exceptional.

Hull KR have already signed one of the best goal kickers in SL

Seems to be a common theme with French players - bursting on to the scene with much promise only to stagnate and not really develop the Rugby IQ to take the next step.  Gigot, Escare, Fages all spring to mind.

I have to admit that Escare came to mind when I was writing my post about Mourgue.

No, I disagree still. We will agree to disagree, and I stand by every thing I said. In prior years he has certainly struggled in attacking 3 on 2 situations to play the right pass or right decision but this season he has looked far better and more composed. He is still not perfect but the signs of improvement are most certainly there. He has been very solid very for Catalans this year and I think he is great signing to replace an aging Evalds or Tyrone May.

Fullback is probably the position with the most talent in rugby league currently, so not sure what you mean by that last comment.

Looks like we have a clear difference in opinion here. I can only go on what I saw last season and I watched Catalans a lot last year.

I think he has some developing to do to reach the level of either of those quoted but he’s got his chance so it’s up to him.

My comment on full backs was more to do with homegrown/local talent. There’s a lot of talent brought in from overseas and a few of the recently decent full backs are coming to their twilight. I don’t believe there is that much young talent in the full back position looking at the list. Not that are noteworthy that is.

I agree Mourge has still not reached his potential. He can still improve quite a lot.

I think there is a lot of young fullback talent in Europe if that’s what you’re referring to. Cai Taylor-Wray and Harry Robertson are generational talents and 2 of the 3 best U18s players in the world. Logan Moy too is special, and there are other guys like Fletcher Rooney, George Flanagan and Alfie Edgell. I’d say England have a very strong generation of fullbacks coming through right now.

I think Cesar Rogué could end up at fullback. Aispuro-Bichet is absolutely phenomenal though, I think he will become one of the best outside backs in SL. Clement Martin is aswell very special, some exciting youth at Catalans.

Also Lenny Marc and Giovanni Descalzi-Ganthier will be great SL players in the future.

Yes I misted Clement Martin who came from Lezignan - a centre and wigner. These are the only full time with the Dragons

Don’t get me wrong I agree that he can and still has the ability to improve. Time will tell on that.

Good list but I’ll disagree on Moy. He's poor imho. Only vastly overhyped by Hull fans and Sky team for a couple of runs in a completely inept team. Hull FC defensively were the worst I have seen ever in SL last season of any team. Dropped some real poor high balls last year too that put FC square under pressure. He wouldn’t get in any other SL team. Needs time to develop at Championship level imo.

That is a good list for academy level rugby absolutely. All those listed though are largely unproven at SL level and as we know some will transition well but others won’t as is usually the case.

My point was more Europe fullbacks who are already at SL standard but have years ahead of them. There’s quite a big gap and void.

Hopefully a couple of those young lads will transition and prove themselves at SL level.

KR done the right thing signing Batch up long term. One player Trinity fans were very gutted to lose.

Good to see a Trinity product get recognised as the quality player he is too.

Losing Johnstone and Batchelor same time seriously hurt Trinity.

I expect he will play for England soon too.

Good luck to him.

Good player is Batch (james) and I think he is better than his brother at Saints . Pity him and a few Others were taken from Trin over to KR. However, the days of HKR looking to Trin to source players is now over

Is there now a production line of home grown Academy and Reserve players just waiting to step up? 😉

Hugo Salabio to Hull. Bit of a project signing. Not sure he makes the first choice 17 initially but lets see how he goes. He's certainly got the tools to be decent. Hopefully Cartwright can bring another level or two out of him.

I like Salabio - hope he makes the breakthrough, as much for France as Hull.

I'm a bit surprised we released him, very raw but definitely had potential and i believe we signed him as a project, he looked fine the times he got game time so a strange one really but i trust Robbo to make the right decisions for his club.
