Wests are totally dysfunctional though so I'm not sure what can be drawn on that, other than Hastings having a poor choice of NRL teams!

I think at Salford he was the number 1 star. He was never going to shine like that at Wigan because the team in general are much better and thus less reliant on his particular maverick ability, and their style of play is more heavily weighted towards structure and set moves.

I think at Leeds he would be similar to Wigan, where he's a key figure in a overall talented team.

Re your Wigan thoughts and Hastings not starring because the team are/were heavily structured, can I just ask you how you see French and Field in this Wigan set up, in my opinion they do more 'Off the Cuff stuff' than any other player's in SL, that is what makes them so exciting and so effective.

Not officially iirc. @Barley Mow will be the better informed.

As I understand it, Leeds bought the Kirkstall training pitch which was Bramley's very short term shared home with Headingley RUFC after leaving McLaren Field the year prior, then Leeds allowed Bramley to play at Headingley, and then Leeds 1st team players returning from injury etc would turn out for Bramley (at Headingley) occasionally. That lasted 3 years in total before the club folded as a merger with Hunslet didn't materialise.

My sort of thinking would have seen for example Bramley playing at McLaren Field or Hunslet in South Leeds rather than just pitching up at Headingley to play as the reserves.

Weren't Bramley effectively the Leeds Rhinos reserve team at this time?

This period coincided with me a being a regular on the Headingley terraces. I do distinctly remember watching Bramley lose to Leigh Miners in the 1999 Challenge Cup at a near deserted Headingley and thinking them continuing as a professional club all seemed a bit pointless (I know that sounds harsh).

Bramley became effectively Leeds' unofficial reserves and were playing at Headingley before folding.

There was talk of a more formal joint arrangement but if memory serves the RFL weren't keen on that.

I think the team has evolved there though, and has become more dependent on those two for attacking threat.

Cross to Saints from Salford. No fee apparently due to reason mentioned on the Salford thread.

Oh aye it's well documented how Wigan fare with either one or both missing, but I feel that is a convenient answer to suit your original statement re Hastings being a maverick and not suiting Wigans style.

Bentley has been excellent both this year and last, totally sorted his discipline and attitude out, I’m glad weve kept him

He came on late ish last night and looked ready to do his old routine of getting binned for a stupid tackle/foul/nonsense but controlled himself well.....i was shocked....

Jackson Hastings on his way to Leeds for next season- not deemed good enough for NRL - shame there are no local halves to come through instead

A humble brag to say I called the Hastings move before the start of the season. Was obvious he wasn't getting in the Knights side and Frawley is a shocking player. I hadn't considered Connor hitting the form of his life but after Croft's injury he's ended up playing more of a 6 anyway. Croft and Hastings could be incredible. Cap space could be an issue, even if Frawley goes.

Frawley is one of those players that is so poor you have no idea how he's managed to get where he is.

Hastings would be a good player to have back in SL.

The article actually says this season with Frawley moving on to another club (back to Huddersfield is what ive heard)

You have to hand it to Huddersfield, whoever is doing their recruitment is on top of their game.

I think they’re pretty desperate at the moment

I honestly never understood signing Frawley, in some ways epitomised everything that went wrong with the team at the end of Hetherington's time.

In Championship news, Ryan Lannon has left Widnes to join Oldham - the second season running that he's left one Championship club whilst still under contract, to join another.

Unsurprisingly Widnes fans seem pretty unimpressed by this, it's hard to know what has gone on as both clubs have been fairly tight-lipped in their statements, with no mention of a transfer fee from either. On his website https://widnesrugby.com/ ,journalist and Widnes fan James Gordon quoted coach Allan Coleman, asked where Lannon had been for the last few weeks (when he hadn't appeared for Widnes), was saying: "You tell me. I’ve not seen Ryan. The situation is Ryan has been unable to play, and he’s not been training."

Widnes have also announced the signing of ex Queensland Cup forward Morgan McWhirter, who's been playing for Limoux Grizzlies in France.

Strange signing, what’s wrong with Lacans and Shorrocks.

Nothing strange, you need more than 2 halves in the squad

Hard to see how he would even star in the championship.

He was garbage for us BEFORE Leeds signed him.
