It's certainly a great offer by him to do this, hopefully the town fans get behind it and make it a success. I'm sure he's Barrow sponsor also isn't he? Not seen him do anything like this for them so he must be more of a town fan 🤣

Apart from the several thousands of pounds he's paid for the naming rights to the ground for the next two seasons?

Personally, I say good on him:  It's good to see he's willing to help all the clubs in Cumbria. I've even heard he's doing a special offer to Whitehaven's 500 fans: A fiver each if they promise not leave the ground before the final hooter.

Why do you assume I wasn't being tongue in cheek?

It was really good news to see that the Allerdale girls football set up has now moved into the Workington Town family, I think they have over 300 girls and will provide a pathway into the ladies squad.

Everything is really positive off the pitch with the expansion of the Town family. As there's still no updates with the new Borough Park bus shelter, I don't think it would be the worst news in the world if the plug was pulled. There will only be two pitches to play on for numerous teams between Town and reds. I think the old Ectona site would be ideal to re-utilise as pitches. It's on sand so will drain really well and the on site windmills could provide lighting. Must be able to fit at least 6 pitches on there.

I know it all costs money and a revamp of DP is required, but I can't help feeling that the Cumberland sports village is not going to provide enough facilities for both clubs. If it ever happens.....

The race is not always to the swift nor the battle to the strong, but thats the way to bet!

So lets get this correct, Town have brought a football team in with the promise of letting them use their grass pitch along with the other 2 Rugby teams but you don't think the new Sports village stadium will be able to handle all the teams despite having 2 pitches, 1 being a hybrid and 1 being a 3G. Reds currently have 2 teams, looking to expand to 3 so that would mean on average 3 teams per pitch! How does that make sense or are you trying to say that Town have pulled a fast one and brought in the Football team despite knowing they wont all be able to play on the same pitch?

It is people like yourself that hold this and many other towns back from progressing in to the future. The new stadium is what both clubs and the town need to not only progress up their respective ladders but to also continue to grow in the community. Without it i predict that Town will, at best be in the exact same position in 5 years time or, more likely, cease to exist in their current set up and will need to operate in a smaller capacity.

Well said. It is being jointly planned and will be jointly run. It will give Wton as well as the fans something to be proud of and inspire children and young people to get involved.

With building work due to start in 2025 we can hope a new stadium will kickstart a better future for the people of this area after 14 years of being crapped on...

It is not "A new stadium"   - latest info was it is a new small LOW LEVEL stand on the site of the stand which was pulled down with the other 3 sides the remaining BP terrace.

This will be a vast improvement for BP - But will not improve what we currently have at DP.

The original stadium which was cancelled - was a worthy replacement which everyone was in favour - THIS IS NOT THAT

You do understand the principles of how building some stadiums work to minimise disruption to the users!

The first phase is to build a new stand approximately a third of the way around a new pitch. Phases 2 and 3 will add future stands which will eventually wrap around the whole pitch. I think a new pitch with new stands around it with new hospitality outlets in it can be classed as a new stadium. The only recognisable part of the current Borough Park will be the actual footprint.

But if you want to stay in a crumbling stadium with a speedway track between the crowd and the pitch then you are more than welcome to stay there, you could set up a new team and take over the place when Town move to the new stadium. Or you could dream that Town remain where they are and watch them crumble along with Derwent Park in the not so distant future and then once that has happened you can wish you hadn't been in the dark ages and had actually supported the joint venture for the benefit of both clubs.

Last I heard they were close to getting the money for Phase 1 and its difficult to find the money.

So Where is - if ever the money coming for Phase 2 - the greenhouse and phase 3

By the way Phase 3 on the cartoon drawings looks awful.

Also the footprint is too small - DP generates extra funds through other activities on the areas OFF the pitch - BP does not have that space.

If you believe the 'Cartoon drawings' are the actual plans then you must believe that they are having a floating 3G pitch above the river Derwent due to the rotation of the pitches on the drawings - smh

If you actually read what it says it clearly states THESE IMAGES ARE INDICATIVE ONLY AND ARE NOT REPRESENTATIVE OF WHAT WILL BE THE FINAL PLAN

The footprint of both Borough Park and Lonsdale, which is what the overall land will be for the new stadium is over twice as big as the current land at Derwent Park!!

If you also need to be told on how the Stadium can generate money to help fund its future growth then i see no point in carrying on this conversation as you are clearly dont understand how to future proof assets and must enjoy living in the dark ages.

And if you read all the info it has on that site it also states

"Situated on the Borough Park/Lonsdale Park site, and with over £6.4m currently invested in the stadium for phase 1, with additional funding for the community pitch, it is much more than a revamp. Until other stages are financed and completed it would make sense to retain some of the functionality of the site e.g., terracing."

You cannot rotate it 90 degrees and keep the terracing or we are going to have a very short and very wide pitch
