No, I don't care about mixing amateur and paid. That's not the issue, the issue is that no one wants what you want and it suits no one.

The NCL serve a different purpose full stop. It's full of heartland teams from towns that have professional clubs who have no aspiration or need to be anything else. They are also quite content playing each other and NCL clubs wouldn't want to be playing development clubs miles away.  Development clubs face as many barriers joining the NCL as they do coming into League 1, probably more so.

And there's the problem, a closed shop.

Also players wouldn't want to be paid by the current amateur clubs? So a lad drops from a SL academy and your saying they don't deserve a match fee and should play for free?

NCL N stands for national but they don't want to play nationally, you are sounding a bit daft and I am sure you are not speaking for every club and player!

You are just making stuff up now and rambling on from one thing to another. I have no idea what you are even going on about now.

Let's leave it at that.

How and why is all here. More of a solution to keep League 1 going rather than an expansion plan as such?

About a dozen clubs  have made  informal enquiries I understand.  An RFL panel is now working on the entry requirements  which will then go out for formal expressions of interest - decision due by September.

Sorry the reference should be for the  Rugby League website under League 1 competition , article dated 17 May.

And the fine print can be found on Google under ' Betfred Championship and League 1 Restructure 2024 -2026 dated 13 march 2024 courtesy of Rochdale Hornets......

It might be worth remembering that League 1 clubs , whilst subject to Tier 1-3 Operational Rules ( which can be costly ) do not in fact have to pay their players anything  or be ' semi Pro '. as such.  They can have up to 40 players registered and they can all be amateur if that is the model that they choose to operate...

Game can't afford to sustain the clubs it's already got. Adding more is stupid.

Be better off turfing League 1 and just having two divisions.

I am sure Oldham, Keighley Rochdale Hunslet etc would love this suggestion of having to fold after over 100 years as you want to collapse the league they are in

Think he meant putting these teams into an expanded championship.

They simply don't seem to have one. The expression of interest is just a blatant attempt to make up the numbers.

Another team from Leeds? We should be looking to get a presence in Liverpool….how about Huyton?😂😂😂

Walk the pitch 2 hours before kick off to remove broken glass and other sharps , dog poo etc.

That happens in West Yorkshire so shouldn’t be a problem 😂

Yorks old training pitch near Clarence Street ground was always covered in dog poo and was a pain to clear up and the club reluctantly sold the land.

IMHO for what its worth a club needs around £200K a year min,and also to be in a town where the locals can really get behind it and little or no competition from other sports (Apart from non league football which is pretty difficult to avoid)

@Bearman said the same thing. If you have 10 home games and average 1,000 fans you’re probably halfway there. Sponsors, merch, food and drink, there’s your 200k. Similarly, there’s your criteria for entry. If you don’t have a good stadium deal, the whole thing falls over.

This is where many clubs struggle in not owning their own grounds and not having things like bars to raise revenue and income. Compound that by paying rent etc and its a real struggle.

Only Oldham and possibly Keighley will average overage over 1000 fans this year. Most clubs are lucky to clear £5k per home game once expenses have been taken off. I dont think any of the prospective new clubs into league 1 will be close to averaging over 1000 fans.

Then only admit them if you’re (RFL) willing to subsidise the shortfall for a period of time (3 years) while they build their revenue.

Again though, and I refer to my previous post, unless you are admitting clubs that have decent infrastructure and own their own facilities (or have decent long term leases that are as good as) this just isn't going to happen.

Well why pick those teams, seems very closed shop and anti growth when all people, say is they want growth

When super league was launched they had a vision for 12 teams in the pro game. Clubs wouldn’t merge and slowly they are getting their way. Img has been hired to see the job through
