Cas rover
Today sees a double header with the mens and womens teams in action, the ladies team have a very important game in WSL 1 to try and pull away from the bottom of a very tough league,so they have paid for an overnight stay in Cumbria last night themselves ! The club have been very poor in supporting the girls with kit, sponsorship and training issues this year, they work very hard against " professional " sides , but are totally unpaid . Please show some support for our girls when they are next at home. Good luck today. Edited May 26 by marklaspalmas

haskey
It absolutely stinks, the club should be looking after the women,s team not expect them to " pay to play". The club has gone down in my estimation.

roversspud
Genuine question. Where does the money come from to support the women’s team? Central funding is massively down, crowds are also down, the club is doing everything it can to raise money with season tickets, kit sales etc whilst being harried by fans to get in this halfback or that middle, or to repair the POR terrace or upgrade the floodlights. And all this whilst trying to keep a competitive men’s team on the field. Something has to give and although I don’t know, I suspect the women’s team brings in less revenue, so it probably receives less funding back. What do others think? 2 "Out of the way, son. Where's my medal?" Alex Murphy's immortal words as David Hobbs scores his 2nd try in the '83 Cup Final!

I would like us to put money into the Womans team but as you say where will it come from?.Clubs doing all it can to bring in extra revenue but the first team need two or three players as a priority. Rovers were one of the original 4 sides in the womens game, there's a club just down the road itching to " buy " a team ( just like York did) it would be a shame for the club to throw all the hard work away. Money all ready there for floodlights and terrace up grade from WMDC.

If you give the women £50 each x18 it would be £900 a game and you couldn't offer them less.Take tax and NI off and they would be getting £36.I think the SL clubs should pass some of their money down for distribution.
The Blues Ox
I don't think people realise the costs of running a womens team. Fev are not the only ones in this position though and its hard to find that extra money to support another team. Look at the travel costs to get a coach up to Barrow, you are looking at nearly 1k unless the club has a partnership with a coach company. The girls themselevs were left to find their own sponsorship which off the top of my head was over £500. Last time I looked many of the them didnt have sponsors so that is quite a chunk of income that is missing that could go towards costs. It makes it doubly hard because at the moment every team this side of the pennines are feeding off the scraps of who Leeds and York don't take and then even Huddersfield after that are struggling for quality and it makes it so hard for teams to even begin to compete. The good thing going forward is that Fev have no competition from Cas or Wakefield so there is plenty of hope for the future and they are not in a bad position given their resources. It could be a lot worse when you look at the likes of Cas, Wakey, Bradford, and my local team Halifax who are second fiddle in their leagues to community teams and in some cases can't even recruit players because people are choosing community teams over them.
