Leeds Restructure Rugby Department

Nailed on that Blease will recommend Rowley for the head coach position at some point in the not too distant future, Leeds are pretty much everything that Salford can only dream of as a club to be brutally honest.

In fairness, Blease or not, Rowley has very solid credentials on his own.

GH after the "outstanding" work comment:

"We started this season with a better-balanced squad than we'd had previously, all those recruited and retained had been done by Rohan Smith. When he came in he inherited a squad, ultimately, he's had the ability to get a squad that is his and the coaches as well."

Then in answer to the next question:

"It's fair to say our current squad lacks experienced leadership"

Blease at least will hopefully put a stop to this delusional mentality. A lot of the pressure is off him regarding the squad as there's not lots that looks like it can be done for next year as it stands (perhaps an Ash Handley leaving changes that?).

Rohan's the man!!!

I think Ian Blease is the aim and always was for this role. Hetherington probably sees a lot of himself in Blease and thinks he's a perfect fit. Head coaches come and go but this is a long-term appointment.

Not sure about a long term appointment as Blease is 59 years old.

I wonder whether AMT, who have injected a big wedge of cash into the club, have had an influence on this move. If I tipped a lot of cash at my club, I'd want on field results, not just a pretty stadium and great off-field things going on.

Frankly some of GH's comments seem very defensive. I can understand him saying we can't expect to win every year, but aside from a miracle run in 2022 we've been poor since 2017 (and were nearly relegated in 2016). Seven years or more meandering around in the middle or even bottom of a league where we have more resources than the majority of teams is a very poor effort. He talks about the league being competive

While also being a longer term appointment than a coach, Blease will also ultimately get the flick if we don't back to genuine challengers, so hopefully all that nostalgia-driven, jobs for the boys stuff will finally get the flick.

I'm certainly glad Blease is an outsider to Leeds Rhinos. It's not jobs for the boys or anything like that thankfully - and he has a proven record elsewhere. If they have had an influence, then I'm glad AMT pushed for this.

GH is clearly on a big defensive posturing. Our greatest success in that 7 years has been winning the Cup and getting to the Grand Final. The former of those Sinfield was still in place as DOR and had been for a few years, and the latter has been tainted by the past 2 off seasons essentially saying that squad was rubbish everything needed changing about the whole club. Everything else has been really poor frankly from all aspects of recruitment - I don't think GH is the sort to go out and sack a coach either, especially one who accepts his authority and that he hand recruited from Australia.

This appointment is a good appointment. I think it is being done now for deflection though, for both GH and especially Rohan Smith.
