According to the Wigan ticketing website, a big block of available seats have just appeared at the Wigan end in block 208. Transferred from RFL, maybe?

Rugby league ticketing does my head in!

They haven't been sitting with the RFL as far as I can see (unless they are returns from corporates or clubs), but they could be a batch that Wigan were selling in person.

One of the things I've noticed is that the 'every other row' technique is being used in some blocks, bit in the Wigan ends this was because Wigan were selling some and the RFL the others. But in the HKR end of the North upper it is just every other row as only the RFL have these for sale.

I think this is why we often have disappointment, as it's difficult to keep up. They are still selling in person at the grounds, so there will be tickets for sale that are not showing online (depending on how they are doing them obviously).

Am only following vaguely from afar, but it seems like the play offs and GF are all selling much better this year than previous years? If so, really excellent news.

Making a big deal out of this part of the season is a really important part of selling the sport as a whole. Particularly given the small crowds the Challenge Cup fixtures get, these games really need to project a strong, vibrant image for the sport.

Hopefully this momentum continues with strong test match crowds.

Yeah, it's been a positive end to the year, and that's a contrast to some years when the playoffs can be disappointing. Finishing on a high as we launch next years season tickets shouldn't be underestimated imo.

Now the GF is over we can concentrate on the attendances for the two tests?

Does anyone know how many tickets have been sold so far?

So since 2017 we've had local derbies, we've had 2x big clubs, we've had new clubs in the final.

It's almost as if there is no single specific circumstance that will provide a big crowd!

NRL final attendance is very disappointing, lowest crowd since 2017 (apart from Covid limited 2020 and 2021). I really think they should revisit having the game in the afternoon like the AFL Grand Final.

Oh god no, why would they want do that?

Much better spectacle in the afternoon or twilight as dew isn't a factor. Plus much better time of day for children and families to watch. All the fan surveys show an overwhelming number of NRL fans prefer an afternoon kickoff also.

The match is as close to a sell out as you would need, so fans enjoy going to the footy in the arvo is of no consequence here.

Any media outlet will tell you that 7.30pm on a Sunday is one of the most coveted time slots, if not most coveted, including family viewing.

Its no surprise that the media continually call for the AFL GF to move to a twilight or evening start, whilst the NRL which have embraced every opportunity a tv broadcaster can offer, have a Sunday evening timeslot. It’s because it’s the best time for ratings. If the NRL moves earlier, the ratings will subsequently drop.

Anyone know any of today’s attendances?

Our attendance against York was announced but couldn't quite hear it for the noise. Think it might of been 6,900 according to my Dad, don't take my word for it.

Apologies it was 5,946 at Wakefield v York.

There is no evidence to suggest 7:30 PM on a Sunday gets better tv ratings for the NRL, the AFL Grand Final consistently has higher tv ratings than its NRL equivalent.

Those two things are not related in  the way you think they are.

Well, some would say the AFL GF gets greater viewing figures for another reason, not the afternoon time slot.

There is ample evidence 7.30pm Sunday is a better television time slot. You certainly won’t see The Block or any other major showpiece television show broadcast on a Saturday afternoon vs a Sunday evening.

I can't see that being bettered for the final now it's been scheduled for Saturday @ 7pm (and other stuff 😉)

If they don’t get over 6k for the championship grand final it doesn’t bode well for SL next year; even taking into account away fans.

Hull KR seem to have done OK since getting 6K for the "Million Pound game", as did Catalans. Leigh got 7233 for the 2022 Championship final for comparison.

A few SL clubs don’t get what trinity average with hardly any away fans. It will be fine.

it’s a good starting point of 5.5-6k and much like KR and Leigh it can grow with success which I’m sure is Ellis’s plan.

Shame it’s Toulouse really as they’ll bring about 5 fans. Expect a similar 5.5-6k for final as it will be all trinity fans.

Had it been bulls would probably have sold out. Toulouse have earned their place though.

A lot of people who take kids to game aren’t happy with the Saturday evening time either. Just in our group there’s 5 that can’t attend and there’s others who aren’t happy it’s Saturday too.

I’ll be there naturally but releasing the date 6 days before a final is rediculous.

Even more rediculous that it’s been decided on by the winner of the other semi final.

Seems on the face of it that Toulouse’s logistical preference has been the deciding factor.

I can think of a few reasons:

- there are more dead eyed saddos over there than we could ever have thought

- on medical advice, watching an obscure pastime is less likely to cause stress or raised blood pressure

- there is so little to do outside of Sydney that they’ll watch whatever is put in front of them…

happy to help: always great when the cheese rollers get shoe horned into a TGG thread.

The date of the final was known before the semi finals, Saturday at 7pm with teams and venue TBC was on the rugby league website.

I saw someone posting on twitter that the date and time wasn't known and they still said that after being shown a screen grab of said website, so I don't know what more they wanted. This myth appears to have spread.

Obviously the venue can't be decided beforehand given the system in place is to let a team play at home.

Give over.

The situation regarding the final is now a bit of an omnishambles but I expected a full house of around 7500 if all the ducks had lined up correctly.

The crowd at last years final, between Toulouse and London, that was similarly reliant on home support, was 3,974.

Leigh v Batley in 2022 at LSV was 7,233.

This world was never meant for one as beautiful as me.
