What a player and man. Very sad news.

I don't know if I'm in the wrong here but the way the RFU has been posting about him rubs me the wrong way. I have no problem with their condolences on the Rhinos social media but putting up their own posts about him seem so wrong. Did he have anything to do with union?

He will forever be held in the same esteem as Doddie Weir in Union circles because of their friendship and fight for a common cause. He and Kev raised money for a cause that all Union fans got behind as well. Its a measure of the man that a working class lad from Cas is loved just as much by the posh boys at Twickers as he is in the League heartlands.

I think a lot of it is because Sinfield was, and still is, working in Union through all of the fund raising.

As I said previously I think his story touched and inspired a lot of people and people across every spectrum and they are just paying their tributes. It shows how much Rob transcended Rugby League through his fight and fundraising efforts.

I've seen cricket and football clubs putting up their own tributes too. There's really not an issue.

We shouldn't forget the part Sally Nugent played providing publicity and pushing the MND cause.

Am I wrong on this but didn't the Tories promise 50 million to research MND but never came through with the money?

Don't think this is the time or thread to turn this into a political argument, which this will inevitably turn into. Lets just pay tribute to Rob.

There are issues around money promised but this is not the thread for it.

Prime BBC timeslot. Planned schedule dropped at short notice. The recognition from the FA before the England soccer game. That in itself says so much about the great man.

Nothing like that has ever happened before for a Rugby League figure (to the best of my knowledge).

The coverage has been lovely and unprecedented which speaks volumes about Rob and the legacy he has left. His family should be very proud.

Even on local Edinburgh radio breakfast show today it was the lead news story and the DJ's spent time paying their own tribute as they'd come across him at events last year.

Have any of us taken a wander down to Headingley today? Was just wondering what the scene and atmosphere is like down there.

I was at Headingley around lunchtime today .his parents and two sisters arrived and one of the ladies said " Thankyou everybody " which got a round of applause.  I heard a man say he drove over from Wigan.  There was quite a crowd the tributes are building up .I couldnt find a florist in Headingley.  I dont mind admitting tears were coming down my face on the 91 bus homev

We've all been in floods of tears, mate and there's nothing wrong with admitting it. As I said earlier, I was crying at work today when I was reading all the tributes during my lunch break.

I've been in and out today, but had BBC Radio 4 on when at home. Rob's been on every news programme and bulletin I've listened to.

If you're not from the UK (or a long-term resident), you can't even begin to grasp how unprecedented this is.

Condolences to Robs family and friends. His death has affected not just followers of Rugby League but everyone who followed his tragic illness. I've written some words in honour of Rob. If it's not fitting don't hesitate in removing. Thank You.

For A Special Man Rob Burrow

      Sport occasionally finds an enigma
someone with a power and a determination
that belies his stature within a game.
      There was such a player,
who had Beep-Beep for a nickname.
This man only played for one team
      through-out his whole career.

      Awards,winning cups,
      and playing for Great Britain
      were his just rewards.
      He retired from Rugby League
While still at the top of his game.
16 years he played for Leeds Rhinos.
Only 2 years later a new battle begun.

Motor Neuron Disease was his foe now.
Yet unperturbed himself and his family,
opened the door for all the world to see,
how this disease affected those around him.
His ex-teammate Kevin Sinfield what a hero
Fundraising, running marathons all for MND.
All for his love of an ex-teammate in his hour of need.

Sadly the day arrived when he passed away.
Tears poured from heaven for this legend
and enigma that had fought his last fight.
Messages from people he had touched
with his braveness in his plight.
Rob Burrow today is a poorer place
      without your outlook on life.

RIP Rob and a heartfelt sadness
      for your family and friends.

I noticed most of the front page of the papers had a good sized and even full page to Rob Burrows but the main feature on The Suns was of Footballer Jude Bellingham and his mum ?

The Sun are naturally repelled by decency, goodness and heroism, so it's not surprising.
