BILL BURGESS JR

In all my years watching Barrow RLFC (with lengthy periods overseas) for me Bill Burgess Jr was the best player I've ever seen in a Barrow shirt.

His pace down that right-wing was electric and he gave me more excitement than anyone else I can think of.

Rest in Peace Bill, you will long be remembered at Barrow Rugby.

1966. Flying Bill scores the winning try in the last minute v the Aussies.

Earlier, another Barrow great Tommy Bishop made a drop goal to give England the lead.

What a game, what an atmosphere.

Brilliant that.

To my generation, who never got to see the great players of the 50s and 60s, Bill Burgess was and will remain a legend.

It's one of Rugby League's great strengths that our legends walk among us: In Bill's case, teaching maths at Furness College.

Hushed reverence and respect is a great thing to bring to a classroom.

RIP Bill
