I think historically Swinton have had close ties with Folly lane and Salford Roosters (formerly Eccles) and of course Rochdale would have links into Mayfield and Leigh with Miners and Rangers, etc etc.

All the players had been overlooked or rejected by their home town teams - I think Ashton was on Salford's books for a while? regardless the fact remains as Coolie has rightly said the model is flawed.

Oldham have spent money to get out of League 1 - they like Swinton have been a yo yo club under the previous owner but now with money and purpose they are making headway - hope they can stay up.

But as i said it doesn't always work as Keighley know only too well.

Never heard from you once on this forum till we got relegated and now you cant keep off it, like i said, sad and bitter

As for the players, they may never have received the chance at championship/champ 1 level if it wasn't for Swinton so may have been lost to the game or still playing amateur

Didn't realise this page was exclusive to Swinton species. But don't flatter yourself I don't intend on staying around 🤣

Your a hot topic at the minute (for all the wrong reasons mind) and going off your Facebook and twitter page comments plenty of other clubs commenting on your predicament.

In terms of those players mentions id say it was more good judgement and smart recruitment by the likes of Duffy, Littler, Coleman and Mazey as an outsider looking in, but you lot slagged them lads off and hounded them out didn't you 🙈

See you in 2025 😺

I concur that the model is far from brilliant.

I think those two words highlighted sum up your problem in all honesty though. Swinton and Historically.

History does not take you forward, its merely something nice to look back on and have.

Reality is your a club carrying the name of a small town within a big club's (Salford's) catchment area, and your not even playing games in the town you carry the name of.

Folly Lane, Roosters, Cadishead etc are all part of Salford's service / catchment area and as the Super League club for Salford with a proper Academy they will snap up any elite talent moving forward.

You need to hope somehow you find another decent coach who can pull players in from other areas and work wonders like Duffy, Littler and Coleman did.

Hmmm well my recollections are Duffy left to join Featherstone, so he wasn't hounded out, Littler was sacked because we got relegated and Colemen left to join Widnes, also not hounded out.

As for Mazey - the master plan to rename and relocate to Manchester - presumably get investment and grants for a Manchester RL team wasn't accepted by the club and yes there was a lot of bad blood...........which wasn't good.

If you take a look at Swinton's web site you will see there is a development programme - just as there is at Rochdale and I would imagine all clubs.

Not playing in Swinton may well change - for that only time will tell.

Salford do not own their stadium, its now owned by the council and I believe. Rochdale's ground is owned by the football club - so we are all tenants then - only difference is we are currently play in Sale.

I am sure the board will do their best to keep the club going and hopefully we will be back in the championship before too long - and I too look forward to the local derby matches with Rochdale.

Actually - I was wrong it was Folly Lane and Langworthy - not so much Eccles as they definitely were a feeder club for Salford.

Clubs will take any promising player from any area - Ken Gowers was deemed too small by Rochdale so he signed for Swinton - and that is going back a while 🙂

I am impressed by your knowledge of former Swinton players and coaches though 🙂

It has been confirmed to me that HornyHornyHorneet is the nom de plume of Mr Mazey  🙂

He / She reposts a lot of club info, leading a lot of supporters to believe its Mr Mazey.  Totally agree with your views on who posts and for what it's worth, I have always considered your views on the game to be well thought out and well presented. Good Luck next season.👍

Well your long standing Rochdale supporting friend is incorrect.

Looking at our Chairman's Twitter account it would appear he's away on a family holiday, and has been for a week or so it would seem from his posts.

Now when I opened my curtains this morning I was most definitely not in a warm climate but I did pay for my season ticket this morning to cheer me up and can't wait for 2025 🏉
