Match thread: Championship Round 14. Featherstone Rovers v Whitehaven. Sunday 7th July 2024.

Rovers went to France with a 21 man squad. That's every player we've got apart from Welly Albert. Obviously Bussey and Massey were not ready. Let's hope they're fit soon. Perhaps the 2nd half of the programme will see less dependency on DR and loans.

We've reached the half way point of the league programme with 6 wins and 7 losses. Regardless of where we were last year or any other year, it's fair to say, with the squad we've got, we should be doing better in terms of results.

So, it starts with Whitehaven on Sunday. They were tough to beat on their own patch in April. We've now got some halfbacks to choose from, and hopefully more middle forwards to choose from, so it should be a good match.

Coming off the back of a general election and the quarter finals of some footy tourney, let's hope a good crowd turns out to see us snap this losing run.

Up The Rovers.

Will Lacans be fit on Sunday. According to Ford he came off with an injury.

Additionally a nervous wait today for any disciplinary action following the Toulouse game (though any bans wouldn't kick in until next week). Addy and Springer for their late hits and Patton for his sin binning probably amongst the ones who might be discussed.

I didn't realise this until I looked at the RFL disciplinary page but Fishwick received a 1-game ban following the Sheffield game which meant he would have been unavailable for the Toulouse game, though I doubt HKR made their players available anyway after giving them all the week off.

Makes it easier if he isn't. Turner and Patton is our best halfback partnership. Unless of course Patton receives a ban, then we're back to one again.

If Patton gets a ban it will apply for the Fax away game which will be difficult i have it down as another loss.

When Whitehaven were formed the meeting was in the Kells Miners Welfare club.So for the first few years their nickname was same as Fevs The Colliers. One of those games that we should win quite easily 24 to 26 points. But would anyone be surprised if Haven managed to turn us over?.As posters have said it is a MUST win game.

A must win on Sunday, especially with the bans coming for the Halifax game. Discipline issues as well as poor form.

If we don't win this i don't know who we will beat and that's no disrespect to Whitehaven.

He's not in the 20 named on the RFL website so presumably Turner will revert to half back. Tennison and Barley come in on DR, still no Bussey, Albert or Massey so we remain very thin.

fevnut has published ‘Fev v Whitehaven: 21 man squads’.

We find it quite difficult to see the potential shape of the teams in the form in which the clubs publish the squads, so we choose to use guesswork based on last week’s teams to set them out in the traditional manner running from fullback to loose forward and then subs.

We also include a chart showing the leading scorers for both teams.

AJ Wallace is set to turn out again at Post Office Road on Sunday - but this time on loan for Whitehaven, along with youngster Lennie Ellis, also from HKR.

It looks like Whitehaven are in an even worse predicament than us in terms of available bodies as they have only been able to name an 18-man squad which includes 3 loanees.

Looking back, 3 weeks ago they were only able to name 16 players against Bradford, but were still in front at half time before fading in the second half.

Farcical.

Some of our players who have performed well this season again being deprived of playing. Sitting on the sidelines or just being moved on.

Now players from the same club and teammates playing against each other.

The Championship is just match practice and experience building for SL players.

Won't stop me watching but it will some I'm sure. DR and loan's have ripped the heart and soul out of the Championship imo.
