Rather than English castles imposed on the Welsh.

With the best, thats a good bit of PR, though I would say the Bedford team, theres, like, you know, 13 blokes who can get together at the weekend to have a game together, which doesnt point to expansion of the game. Point, yeah go on!

The BGS maps portal provides access to over 45 000 high-resolution viewing images of almost all the small, medium and large scale maps produced by the BGS since mapping started in 1832 right up to the most recent maps released in 2020. It incorporates all the earlier maps and history pages that were previously made available through the BGS ‘Historical maps of the Geological Survey of Great Britain and Ireland’ web resource.

Heard a DJ on t'wireless recently, saying that he never knew that the Scottish national animal was a unicorn and Scottish folk even have one on their passports!

Well, fella, if you take a closer look at your own passport you'll probably find one there too.

Similarly, Tamm for Estonia seems very random. I presume that word maybe means something in Estonian, or at least is a derivative of something because again, I would have ignorantly assumed their names would maybe end in 'ski' as well.

Tamm means Oak.

Ski would be a very odd ending to a surname in a country with a Finno-Ugric language TBF.

(I'm half Estonian BTW, although I'm not sure which half 😉).

Do you consider the Norman castles imposed on the Welsh to be English castles? Serious question btw.

Any idea who determines most popular? Having Nicola Roberts for Lincolnshire is scraping the barrel.

It says 'most popular/bestselling' above the map so I would guess Nicola Roberts is Lincolnshire's bestselling artist.

Roberts was born in Lincs as her Dad was in the RAF but grew up in Runcorn (thanks to Wikipedia, I didn’t actually know the Lincolnshire bit, fairly sure she identifies as a plastic scouser though).

I'm not big into music so couldn't really say what artists are from Lincolnshire. Who else is from there?

Imposed by the forces of the English crown, so Normans count, as I doubt they built any castles in Wales before 1066.

At the time the Normans most certainly wouldn’t have considered themselves English though, and no English people would have considered them that either. I’m not trying to have an argument btw, I know both viewpoints are valid.

If you ever find yourself in Bayeux, the museum around the Tapestry is fascinating for how it shows the world as the Normans would have viewed it themselves post Conquest, with the 'home' but being the south eastern counties of England and the region facing it in the north of France.

You got any pics of Bayeux that you could post here? I've never been but it's certainly on my bucket list.

Went there a few years back, superb place. Being a nerd I often wonder what would have happened if the Battle of Hastings had been won by the English, global history would be so different.

None that I can think of - sorry!
