When do we find out the SL teams for next season based on IMG ratings?

I know. The crying has started already looking at some of these posts

No crying as you put it, just sheer confusion as to how Toulouse can be scoring so much higher than London when on face value there is no difference.

There isn’t any confusion.

Try going through all the criteria, which is available to all I.e. it’s not hidden, and tell us all where London either match or exceed Toulouse

Paying fans for a start.

Ask Sky if they'd rather have 15,000 in the stadium or 200,000 watching the telly.

The sport could survive empty stadiums (as we know). It couldn't survive empty living rooms.

IMG are picking the teams, not Sky, to IMG fans matter. Far too long have clubs had the attitude of just taking Skys money and that’s why the game is in a hole now. Rugby League teams can’t afford 2 french teams at the top level unless it goes back to 14 teams.

If you think clubs can do without paying fans you are sorely mistaken.

What evidence do you have of this extra 200,000 that will watch Toulouse on the TV?

If you think IMG are truly independent, consider why the criteria that they have set out broadly deliver the status quo but as a semi closed shop. Also note that the clubs have complete veto options when it comes to IMG guidance e.g. Magic and loop fixtures.

IMG do what they're told because they have no choice.

Of course clubs couldn't do without paying fans but they're certainly reliant on central funding which comes from the competitions broadcasting revenue.

Of course they won't get those numbers but I do know that brand recognition counts for a lot in broadcasting. More Sky Sports subscribers will have heard of Toulouse as a place than Castleford.

There's a reason that they showed all of Torontos games in the Championship when SL only had 2 games per week.

IMG aren’t picking the teams.

The criteria has been agreed by the clubs ergo they are technically picking the teams subject to those same teams performing well across a number of areas, including onfield playing performance.

And why can’t RL afford 2 French teams? Catalans have for a number of years brought much more than a number of the other existing SL clubs.

I thought the reason for that was that somebody was already doing the production?

What did Toulouse bring to the SL the season before last?

I’m not suggesting that they do bring more to the comp but people seem so sure that they are a less valuable asset. I’m just not seeing that Leigh, Cas and Wakey bring much more.

That may be the case but if someone was doing the production for every Widnes game, I’m not sure Sky would broadcast all of their games. The reason they were on telly every week is because of the Toronto brand.

You talking about the season they got promoted in a global pandemic and vaccine passports were introduced and many people were still restricted in their homes and afraid to go out? Yeah that's a fair comparison. 👌

Also the same season where two of their most creative players left just before the season kicked off due to restrictions and disputes around the vaccine passport. (France had much tougher restrictions around this)

Let's not use this season as a way to measure Toulouse's potential as it's just meaningless

IMG are not independent. They just play along to keep the bigger more influential clubs happy in the hope of a better pay day. They have zero interest in long term future of the game. If they don't make any money they will be off.

If TO are in SL next year on the scoring, well done to them. In terms of scoring metrics, I'd assume they'd do well on the hypothetical crowds (based on local population), stadium, and who knows on financials. Whether that's better than identifies bums on seats/stood on terracing compared to other teams is open to opinions, but you can only play to the current rules of the game.

I'm a Fev fan. We lost faith and square to London last year, tough on us. If someone else looses to TO under the new rules for next year, suck it up.

I too would be interested to see the breakdown, but I guess it's because they have very strong financials, a great stadium and fall in the same crowd bucket (3k-7k) as their rivals, and have either been SL or top two in the championship the last three years. Plus their foundation efforts are at least as good as Cas and Leigh.

London's on field performance can't match that, nor the crowds apart from this year.

Edit: Plus TO gain an extra 0.5 for catchment....

Saying TO’d crowds are comparable to Leigh or Cas’ is ridiculous tbf.

Toulouse is in France. Empty Stadium and has Sun.

Get them in eh?  Oh, and they battered Wakey!

If Toulouse get anywhere near a sniff it's wrong!

Unless they win the championship, in which case it’s dead right.

Toulouse crowd at this game was reported at a good few thousand from what I remember, and this wasn't even in the top tier.  The population of Toulouse is about half a million. Is it ridiculous to say that their crowds could be comparable to Leigh if they were to get back up to the top level?  There's a lot of ridiculous things said on this forum but maybe with some ambition to expand the sport we could all recognise potential.

All the clubs at the bottom of SL + at least Wakey think there scores have improved. Someone will be disappointed.

There’s an obvious solution to that, 14 teams, but the existing SL clubs will never let it happen.

There is definite potential and like many in this forum I desperately want to see TO do well, but there’s also zero evidence to suggest their crowds would be better than Leigh’s, even if they had an extended period in SL.

In general terms, and accepting there doesn't seem to be this particular element in the "Re-imagining Rugby League" rankings, I'd say, just like Toronto, they helped to break down the "Northern Parochial Sport" barrier that has penned in  the game ever since the invention of the motor car and live television.
