This year's Championship

Cheers guys that's a shame then, thought it would be a similar day out like Wembley format with the 1895 Cup afterwords etc never been to a grand final but do remember watching Toronto v Featherstone final a few years back so should have known. Well with the price of the trains these days, that might be my next game if we get there 🤞

If Trinity win, they will be promoted.

If Trinity lose, they will be promoted.

So not really sure what the point of the game is.

Ive said this long before my team was in relegation danger that dropping the number of teams in the Championship is a disgrace. After this season we would have been left with at least 13 competitive teams presuming Wakey swap with London as expected which would leave Dewsbury who are clearly not competitive been replaced by likely Oldham who have some money to spend. Instead we could potentially see 3 teams relegated and with the lack of money in that division it could set them back years if not killing them.

Dewsbury Chairman decided not to splash any money this season as he didn't know what the impact of IMG grading would be. And given he's backed the club 20+ years, he takes a longer term view.

Strange how the RFL thinks promotion and relegation is important in Championship and L1 but not for SL.

That's how #### eyed the system is. The RFL couldn't run a bath.

And yet they manage to manipulate the system so that Toulouse/ Bradford/ Wakefield / Leigh/ Leeds are guaranteed a spot in SL next season.

Well if you are so certain of the facts of that statement, can you tell me more. If those three are going up , can you tell me who is dropping out ? Or is SL going to be expanded in some way ?

Is it to see who wins the Championship?

My comment was based on “claims” made by various posters on here and was made in response to the quoted poster’s original comment where they accused the RFL of not being able to “run a bath”.

Dont forget for this year only there is now a 6 figure prize for the winner which will be a nice little extra bit of cash for wakey to go with the millions they will recieve from SL over the next few years.

I've not seen anything about how many are relegated this season.

Doesn't mean it wasn't announced.

There's a lot of people suddenly dead set against the concept of promotion and relegation when it concerns their team negatively.

I can confirm 30+ less sales for Scotland vs Italy at Workington, after this afternoons test purchase for the Tonga match, £7.50 is extremely reasonable, however a £2.50 'delivery' fee for a walk in purchase is beyond taking the mickey, good luck with that, it's cheaper on the telly.

My club are in real danger of relegation this season. Without any shadow of doubt P & R should be an integral part of the Rugby League system in this country.

On top of the millions they fraudulently received over the last 20 or so years. 😳

Whos against it? I can't say I have seen too many on here saying much in that regard. There is a relly good chance Fax get relegated this season but I wouldn't change promotion and relegation for the world. I'm already eyeing up the last game up at Haven as a possible relegation decider and how that might make for an exciting game.

What I am against is relegating teams to help League 1. That in my opinion is a stupid decision. Can you imagine Super League dropping a team to even up the Championship? They wouldn't do it so why should we when you already have so many competitive teams. The longterm idea is for SL to expand yet in the next division down we are doing the opposite.

Its the strangiest season for Swinton in all my 46 years in watcing them, beating the teams near the top isnt a problem, beating the teams at the bottom is impossible! We can beat Featherstone and Sheffield away but lose twice, and deservingly so, to Whitehaven

I can remember the 2014 season pretty well, when London and Bradford both went down. That strengthened the Championship, whether or not that was the intention behind it.

If League One is stronger, it makes the fall from the Championship less severe for whoever gets relegated and that must be a good thing. The current set up of 12, 14 and 9 teams in the three leagues is clearly uneven and needs rebalancing. Unfortunately your attitude sounds a bit like what Super League is often accused of, happy to let League One rot to preserve the Championship.

And more then likely Swinton will beat Fev at home, but we have beaten Whitehaven twice - crazy 🤪.  Certainly keeps the Championship interesting.

What impact could IMG's grading possibly have in relation to Dewsburys funding? It's not like they have ever been a SL club, they've always been a mid-to-top Championship side.

Strange how he has backed the club for 20+ years without ever trying for promotion but suddenly he's scaled back his money this year due to IMG. It's rubbish.

Grading not funding and that whether we'd be in L1 regardless of playing performance.

Up the Trin

Living in Wakefield there's certainly a buzz around the team this year. Not sure that would have been the case if they'd stayed in SL. Think this season has been a big boost to Trinity.

Admittedly they've got a new stand courtesy of the council and a new benefactor putting money in which would have helped, but they wouldn't be anywhere near a trophy if they'd stayed in SL.

How many Trinity fans would have preferred another season in the bottom half of SL compared to the season they've had in the Championship?

1999/2000 Dewsbury finished top of the Championship and in the play off beat Leigh with a late drop goal. Therefore Dewsbury qualified to join SL on the field. But were denied a place because their ground was not up to the required standard.
